American Porter |  8.00% ABV

Availability: Rotating

Notes/Commercial Description:
Dark in color with a ruby hue with forward notes of chocolate and caramel and light toffee notes in the aroma. Flavor has big notes of bittersweet chocolate with notes of caramel and toffee and moderate hop bitterness and more caramel and toffee and slight hints of char. A big take on a classic style.

I’ve had this on draft at the brewery and from a 1 gallon growler multiple times since I was at the brewery eight days ago. This particular is from some of the beer from the growler which was siphoned into a wine bottle, corked and sealed with wax. It has held up incredibly well. Served in a pint glass.
A: Black and brown beer with little head (same as from brewery).
S: Roasted malts and caramel.
T: Malty, caramel and some small notes of vanilla and that sweetness that Cigar city dark beers have. Not as evident as Marshal Zhukov but still there.
M: A little bit of a coffee taste and the same roasted, caramel goodness that accompanies the rest of the beer.
O: This is a great porter that has held up extremely well since I bought it. I wish this was bottled because it rivals some of the better six pack porters that I like as regular everyday beers (Founders, Ballast point…).

Great smooth taste with bitter notes of toffee and chocolate. Subtle beginnings but the after taste is amzing, tasting every flavor once is washes over your tounge.

One of 6 samples at the tasting room 1/29/14

There's no question this is a nitro-tap: the dense brown cream that forms the head takes a full two minutes to develop before capping the dark brown beer beneath it. After it's fully formed and the beer falls slowly down the glass, it remains clinging to it as an almost unbroken sheet to the very bottom.
The main features of this porter are roast and dryness. There's a bit of woodiness and toffee/caramel sweetness to counter a dose of hops stronger than most porters receive but unobtrusive to its character overall. The gently bitter dryness serves to balance very nicely without interfering negatively.
The dry, medium-full body is very smooth. It's not as exceptionally smooth as some nitro beers (surprising, really, given the look), but it's got it.
