Being the first beer we had ever brewed, Maduro English-style Brown Ale is truly Cigar City Brewing’s classic recipe. The classics, however, need occasional reconsideration. What better way to update our own classic than with the addition of Madagascar vanilla to add a marshmallow-like sweetness, a fuller body and a touch of burnt sugar to Maduro’s complex chocolate and toffee malt character. Remaking a classic has never tasted better.

It was over a year ago since I had it, but given the reviews (and the price) I was disappointed.

On draft

Dark brown in color, creamy off white colored head. a mild aroma of vanilla, caramel, milk chocolate. Slightly sweet. nitro mouthfeel fits the beer pretty well.

Description: Deep brown color with a hint of ruby and a light tan head. Smell is mostly coffee and roasty up front and followed by a sweet, cream, vanilla aroma. Seems pretty balanced. The taste is similar, with coffee up front followed by sweet vanilla flavors as it mellows and finishes. The mouthfeel might be the most interesting part of this beer. For lack of a better term it's "fluffy" and creamy but not thick or syrupy like a stout. Highly carbonated.

Suggested food pairing: Pulled pork

If you like this beer then you should also try: Sumatra Mountain Brown

Overall: 4.25 (This beer is good and I would likely have it again) Both coffee and vanilla flavors are noticeable and complement one another instead of competing or muddling the beer. Maybe not a beer I'd drink a lot of, but it was interesting, well executed and worth a try.

A vast improvement over the standard Maduro - Cigar City knows how to take things to the next level, which they do very well with this. Some amazing things happening here, considering it's a brown ale.
