Poured from growler into a pint glass, pours an impressive brown with ruby color hue and nice thick fat lace. Smell is of dark chocolate, roasted caramel and sweet cocoa slight hint of vanilla. Taste is spot on big and roasty with chocolate, tobacco, a hint of spice from the hop and just a slight faint taste of vanilla. Overall another impressive offering from Cigar City.

On tap at Kickbacks in Jacksonville.

A - essentially opaque with mahogany highlights. Has a thin bubbly tan head.

S - Sweet aroma with a clear but not too strong vanilla note; hint of milk chocolate.

T - Largely follows the aroma, but the vanilla is too dominant and the beer is too sweet. Roasted malt and oatmeal are detectable.

M - Near medium body but too thin for style. Would also be better with a slight increase in carbonation.

O - Disappointing: I prefer the regular Madura.

On-tap.

Pours a clear chestnut brown color with a one-finger off-white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of vanilla bean first and foremost, with good amounts of toasted and chocolate malt aromas backing it up. As it warms the vanilla aroma fades a bit and hints of tobacco enter into things.

Tastes very similar to how it smells, although the supporting cast members are a bit more intense. Toasted and lightly roasted chocolate malt flavors kick things off and are joined almsot immediately by smooth vanilla flavors. Midway through the sip the vanilla subsides a bit and hints of milk chocolate and tobacco make an appearance then carry through to a mildly bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a solid thickness with moderate carbonation.

Drinkability is also good. I finished my glass and could have another.

Overall I'm not so sure I don't like this better without the addition of vanilla beans, however that's not to say the addition isn't interesting. Worth a shot.

On tap at Cigar City takes NYC event at Rattle 'N' Hum. Raters at my table were not so oy-yoy-yoy about the vanilla, but I appreciated the vanill's edge and smoothness,a rising above the chocolate and making it a decent drinker, owing to it being more on the sweeter side.Very dark with a whisp of a head, suitably carbonated.

Tasted in the brewery when I picked up a growler to send to Koopa. I just now found my notes.

Pours a nice dark brown with a frothy, big head. Very creamy appearance.

Not too much going on in the nose. I would have liked some vanilla, but it smells a bit more like a muted Maduro.

Thankfully the taste isn't hiding like the nose. This tastes a lot like the regular Maduro, but the vanilla smooths over some of the coffee notes already present.

Very creamy in the mouth. Nice feel all around.

This is a great beer, but I would have preferred a more vanilla forward beer.

Growler via trade thanks to Sebletitje. Glad to try another brown ale from the brewery that IMO does the style best. Yes, I'm drinking the CCB Kool-aid. These guys are good, and MOST of the hype is warranted.

Pours cloudy chestnut brown with a thick, creamy light yellow-beige head that lasts. Good lacing.

Aroma is nice and sweet. Lots of vanilla, along with sweet caramel, wood, and nuts.

Flavor is fairly sweet and very complex. Caramel and toffee malt notes, chestnut and other nuts, LOADS of vanilla, wood (was this -bal aged?), chocolate, and molasses. Crazy stuff.

Palate is exceedingly smooth and creamy, with medium-full body. Really sticks with you.

It's almost unfair to classify this as a brown ale, but if you do, it's great for the style. Drinkable and really enjoyable overall.

On nitro at Vine and Barley Palm City. Served in a nonic pint.

Appearance - Creamy off white head. Deep brown body.

Smell - Buckets of vanilla. Some chocolate. More vanilla.

Taste - Vanilla im various expressions. Never abates. Hop presence comes out here. Deep caramel malts and some chocolate. Bitter finish.

Mouthfeel - Creamy. Medium heavy.

Overall - Too much vanilla for me.

Cask into tulip.

Very nice dark with a nice light head; the cask effect is evident in the lack of lacing.

Full of malt in the aroma; mild oaked vanilla with a bit of lactic like one would expect with a milk stout.

There is a bit of water in the taste. After the initial malt burst there is a watery feel and then again after the roasted malt with slight vanilla note. Overall, a full flavor.

I think I prefer the cask Maduro to the bottle. While I don't notice enough 'vanilla' to make a huge taste difference I do think the cask makes this a better drink.
