Cigar city continues to live up to the hype. The water sucks in Florida although I have tried some good brewpubs there (Big Bear/Titanic) This guy impresses me more than those places by a good margin.

Pours a nice apricot with small foamy top and tastes like some of the best IPAs I know of-citrus,grapefruit,pine, all depends how your palate is set up that day, There are no real negatives to this beer that I can detect. It goes great with peanut butter, Excellent IPA that scares me cuz its stronger than I would like.

Another fine offering from CCB that I get the distinct honor of being able to try. This one comes at as most others do in a small growler. Consumed on 06/23/2009 via a pint glass.

The pour was very nice. Light honey colored amber with a slight bit of cloudiness to it that seemed to resolve itself after a minute or so. Smooth, small white head on top that did not last long and faded off into a thin veil with some decent side glass lacing after a few moments. Aroma was hoppy, ripe grapefruit and pineapple at first, but as it warmed it tended to take on a more subdued note. Nice hints of floral notes coming through now. Grassy with a hint of light woody notes. As I take a sip the heather and lavender add an immediately noticeable grassy and herbal quality to it. Light malty note and a nice hint of aged cedar coming through now, giving it an almost tobacco like, light spice. Cool, biting hops return to the finish and dry it out nicely.

Overall a very drinkable, and very interesting twist on their IPA. This is definitely a winner. The lavender and heather really seem to play off the cedar and hops quite nicely and give it a smooth, balanced flavor. I would take this one any day.

Growler obtained at CCB on 6/19/09, consumed on father's day. Poured into a tulip.

A: Cloudy copper color with one and a half fingers of eggshell white head, that when it receeds leaves tons of spotty lacing.

A: Holy S%*! Batman! Earthy hops, grass, and of course the flowers. Lavender and Heather just shoot out of the nose. This is the most floral IPA I have ever had. Orange peel, tangerine, and mango are balanced nicely with the sweet malts.

T: This one was aged on cedar, heather, and lavender. The cedar aging gives it an unbeleivable smoothness. The citrus again is balanced perfectly with the crystal malts. The alcohol is not even noticable.

M: Medium body, again just outstanding. Perfect amount of carbonation.

D and overall impression: This is the only knock I can give this beer, the flowers will limit the drinkability. Overall, I'm blown away by this beer. I don't think everyone will enjoy this because of the pungent floral earthiness of the brew, but I can't get enough. I am lucky enough to try this super fresh. I hope the guys at CCB produce this as a seasonal or at least recreate it as a limited release. One of the best beers I've ever had! Skal.

Sampled on tap at the brewery.

A: Pours a hazy beautiful golden hue. This one is unfiltered for sure. The head builds nice and high with good retention and lace.

S: Wonderful floral aromas. Like a garden scented perfume my grandmother may wear. Hints of spicy cedar and grapefruit push through, but the heather and lavander really shine here. That being said it is a subtle floral sweetness nothing too overbearing.

T: It is subtle in the taste as well. I have had some jasmine IPA's that are all jasmine that is not the case here. The IPA caramel and citric qualities are still there along with hints of the cedar. The heather and lavander just peek in and out in such a nice way.

M: Medium in body, smooth.

D: Very good. I love what CCB are doing. Jasmine and Heather are a nice addition to an already solid Cedar Aged IPA.
