Found my old notes on these 110K beers.

A: The beer looks much the same as the regular version, black and dense, with a brownish head to go with it.

S: Certainly smells like a barrel aged beer. Big whiskey, vanilla, and oak. Some booze to it, but it's fine with me. Not quite as roasty as the regular version with a bigger emphasis on the sweetness and chocolate notes.

T: Sweet vanilla, oak, and whiskey along with some toffee and chocolate. Hints of roasted malt and coffee come through, but they're drowned out by the barrel. A touch boozier on the tongue than the nose.

M: The body is sort of thin on this beer, unfortunately. Medium carbonation.

O: The flavors here were solid, other than a bit too heavy on the booze, but the mouthfeel was a real let down.

Pours black as the moonless night with a milkchocolate colored head. Very little head and negligible lacing.

Smell is absolutely wonderful. Sharp and clean. Some alcohol, some oak, and a bit of dark fruits -- especially cherry. It smells a bit like a manhatten, actually.

The taste is dark chocolate covered cherries soaked in a nice single malt. Just the right amount of alcohol and oak flavors. Tons of flavor and complexity.

I wish it were a bit softer in the carbonation but the carbonation is light on the tongue. The beer also leaves a nice, sticky texture on the tongue and coats the throat with it's goodness.

This is absolutely fantastic. My last bottle and I wish I could drink it over and over again.

Thanks to Chris (spycow) for this one! Poured into Narke tulip.

A - Pours black, mocha-colored head, spotty lace, thin collar.

S - Smooth booze, chocolate, burnt sugars, light roast. Very -bal like here with the sweetness and booze. Very rich and dessert-like.

T - Chocolate, booze, whiskey, light roast, oak. Really nice and smooth with the whiskey...I think the extra time in the bottle did this one some good.

M - Medium to full, a bit too thin, light carbonation, creamy finish.

O - Very solid, enjoyable, smooth, and rich. I would def have this one again. CCB is one of the best -bal beer producing breweries out there, and this early example is yet another reason why I love their -bals. Yes, I love -bals. Recommend.

Thanks to Chris aka spycow for busting this rarity out.

A - Black beer with a brown head. Really looks like the non-BA version.

S - Some whiskey, vanilla, oak, a touch of booze. A decent bit of sweetness and chocolate and a touch of roast.

T - Vanilla and oak, with some whiskey and chocolate. I like the barrel presence on this one, although it does cover up the roastier notes of the beer a little bit. Nice sweetness with the chocolate.

M - Medium carbonation, kind of medium bodied.

O - Good beer, didn't disappoint. Very solid BA beer that I'd love to drink again.

cracked for the hell of it tonight because we wanted to do something rare, this was certainly pretty damn rare for sure. split into twin snifters.

dark inky black with a creamy brown head that rose up to a height of two fingers before settling down and dropping tons of lacing up and down the sides of the glass. really a very full looking beer.

aroma is deep bourbon. lots of vanilla and oakey notes that start to fill the air from the very first moment. sweet and full of character the rich chocolate notes that really fill the air. thick molasses and rich sweet vanilla notes just fill the flavor. thick an full the profile is outstanding. it seems the bourbon is really taking a hold of this beer and running with it. simply astoundingly smooth with not even a touch of alcohol

Entering a bit of a backlog here. Bottle generously shared by Urbancaver (thanks Cam!).

Pours a very viscous, evil black color with a tannish/brown head. Looks really nice. The smell is big charred chocolate, molasses, vanilla, a hint of dark fruit and a touch of bourbon. A lot of interesting stuff in there. The taste is a lot like the nose - charred malts, chocolate, a hint of dark fruit, bourbon. It closes aggressively charred/roasted, maybe a bit too dry for me. The mouthfeel is heavy and huge with enough carbonation to make you feel right about that. Overall, I would have enjoyed this beer more if the finish was toned down a bit. It detracted too much from the experience and came off overroasted and over done. That said, this had huge, interesting flavor and was a joy to get to try.

Pours a pitch black amazingly dark brown, very thick. Great appearance. A nice solid brown head. Beautiful beer. Smells strongly of dark chocolate and bitter roasted malts. A solid aroma. Tastes chocolatey with a nice solid bourbon along side. Oak heavy on the noses and tongue. Very solid thick brew. Overall top notch. A very solid showing from cigar city

Acquired this gem in a trade with fogdog awhile back. Thanks Kevin! Bottle #130/449. Split with my roommate, JustinA1.

Poured into a Cigar City snifter.

Appearance: Pours just like motor oil: thick, pitch black, very little head. Violent swirls bring the head to life, showing off its insanely dark color: a blend between black and brown with shades of crimson. 110K+OT has one of the darkest and heaviest-looking bodies I've ever seen (Zhukov's up there too). Spotty lacing. Better head retention as it warms. Eye candy.

Smell: Chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, red currants, vanilla, and molasses come through from the start. Digging deeper, I got char, peppered meat, and earthy esters. Booze (bourbon?) creeps in as it warms, but never plays a large role. Huge.

Taste: Chocolate cake with generous amounts of frosting, chocolate syrup, red currants, booze, and then heavy roast. The aftertaste is dominated by char and ash, accompanied by modest boozy heat. Coconut eventually appears, adding a nice barrel-aspect to the beer. Huge and flavorful, but also sort of muddled. The heavily roasted finish needs to be toned back a bit as well.

Mouthfeel: Hearty, thick, lightly warm and dry. Somewhat syrupy, with just enough carbonation to assure imbibers that it's not flat. Bold and long-lasting in the aftertaste. Get yourself a spoon.

Overall: This 750mL took us well over an hour to put down. Lots of flavor and body, but it's not what I would ever call delicate or complex. To me, this imperial stout was just all over the place. I like the flavors and aromas individually, but they don't meld with each other too well. Still a solid beer, and definitely worth a try if you get the chance.

Pitch black with a reddish espresso head.

Huge oak and molasses aroma. Heavily roasted malt and dark cocoa. CCB knows how to make an impressive stout looking.

Like biting into a 90% dark Moroccan cocoa bar with some added vanilla to smooth it out. Molasses with a crazy ashy burnt malt aftertaste and dark cherries. A heavily charred barrel flavor accents this beauty.

Medium viscosity for a heavy stout. Rather light carbonation. The barrel treatment served this beer well as I didn't care too much for the regular version.

Big thanks go GoGriz for bringing this to our tasting.

*reviewed from notes*

Jet black pour with a thin wispy head that fades into a faint ring. Smells of smoke, bitter chocolate, and bourbon. Slight wet/damp wood. Flavor follows the nose. Very fudgy, roasty and sweet. Low to moderate carbonation with a sticky finish.

Delicious!

Pours a thick Oily black. Thin espresso head. Great color though. Nose has oak, vanilla, cocoa, bourbon, roasty malts, dark fruits, caramel, oats and hops. Nice big stout, barrel did this well. Full, creamy body, excellent finish. Another great stout from CC.

Courtesy of tlay10, I was able to enjoy this beer directly after tasting the original version. This bottle is from batch 2, number 167 of 449.

It's got the same look as original, an inky brew with a super-dark head that fizzles out quickly. Some spots and zig zags of lace pepper the glass as I drink.

The hops smell fresher here, brighter. The whiskey is nicely in-balance with the rest of the aromas, which are also similar to the original: tobacco, balsamic vinegar, black pepper, sweet molasses and currants. However, those smells seem better blended here. It seems aging has melded the aromas that seemed separate in the un-aged version.

The flavor mirrors the nose: cedar, dark chocolate, tobacco, pine, licorice. The whiskey is subtle, which I like. Improves immensely as it warms.

Feels a little fizzy for what it is, but soft. Some alcohol is noticeable in the nose. The carbonation is slight amidst a velvety medium-full body.

A vast improvement over the non-barrel-aged version, the flavors I found challenging before are subdued and there was far more balance here, making it incredibly tasty and drinkable. I found myself hogging most of this bottle.

Bottle 430/449 thanks to my man Dave (Ibrew2or3); thanks brother. Pours a pure oil can blackness, a medium beige head. A great nose; pure goodness, smoke, cocoa, wood, rich roasted malts, ash and fruit. A very complex and awesome flavor; smoke, vanilla, wood, charred malts, dark fruit...wow, ashy wood and a full rich creamy mouthfeel. Lots of dark fruit as it warms come to the fore. Awesome. The cedar plays a great role in the brew.

Reviewed from notes. Thanks to bmanning for this bottle.

Pours black with a mocha head that recedes fairly quickly, leaving behind some pretty good legs. The nose is bourbon, oak, vanilla, chocolate, coffee, and some roasted malt. Hints of dark fruits. The taste is similar with some strong notes of bourbon along with some oak and chocolate. The feel is pretty strong and a bit boozy. Drinks well and was one of my first beers from them; quite a first impression.
