A: Pours a muddy orange with no head regardless of a hard pour. No lacing.
S: A sweet malty aroma of caramel malts, honey, and vanilla. Very little hops.
T: Loads of sweet caramel malts, bready malts, & candy sugar. Finishes with a twinge of bitter citrus hops.
M: Full body; no carbonation; slick and oily texture.
O: Before I told my spouse what style this was, I asked him what he thought. He said American Barleywine. I totally agree! Although I liked it, I would never thought this was an DIPA. Not very well balanced, very sweet, and wouldn't recommend this for hop heads. Feel bad giving it a bad score, but this is a bad example of the style. Put that aside and I really enjoyed it.

I'm reviewing this beer as an American barleywine. Obviously, with the beer being 4 years old, the hops have faded. In it's place though, is a very nice BW. Cheers!

Reviewed from notes. Had out of a firkin at CCB tasting room. Poured into a snifter glass.
A: Deep caramel in color, translucent, with a one-finger khaki head and no visible carbonation.
S: Sweet malts, a bit of pine & citrus hops, and boozy. Some roasted caramel.
T: Follows the nose very closely. The hoppiness is still trying to hold on but is clearly losing the battle. Still a little alcohol heat but it does seem tamed. Overall a nice sweetness here.
M: Medium body, smooth & silky mouthfeel. Boozy but the alcohol heat doesn't overwhelm. Minimal carbonation sensation, likely due in part to the firkin serving.
O: Wow, this was very good, and I'm glad I had the chance to try it! Guess they had this one aging for the last couple years. I never had the opportunity to try it fresh, but it sure was tasty as is!
