This is a heavily hopped high gravity porter featuring the hopping levels of an India Pale Ale with the rich and roasty malt profile of a robust porter. Heavy hop rates, while uncommon in today's porters were not unknown historically and recipes from the British porter producers of the 1800's evidence hopping rates far in excess of what is common for the style today.

CCB drops into the big hop realm for a porter on this one. Brown beer, brown pour, lighter brown 1/3" head. Aroma of brown malt and PacNW hops.

Taste, well carbonated mouth feel compliments heavy dose of hops, brown malt. Hearty amount of roasted malt going on here. Coffee from the malt tones. Somewhere in between those hoppy porters of Black Butte and SN realm, but with a blast of black ipa along the way. I liked it, but wouldn't set up trades for it or anything.

Pour is a dark brown, nearing black hue. Khaki colored head that lasts for the whole session. Nice lacing. Aroma is roasted malt foward, hints of licorice, bakers chocolate, and slight coffee. Taste follows the nose, big roasty malts, hints of licorice and tabacco leaf, dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is relatively velvety, still a little thin. Low carbonation. A solid stout, nothing too complex.

Nearly pitch black with a big light tan head with great retention and lacing. Huge aromatic nose on this one. Notes of dry bakers cocoa, caramel, toffee, light citrus, lightly overdone toast, light char and burnt marshmallow. Medium body, approaches creamy but falls short with a light prick of carbonation and a semi dry finish. This is a fantastic Porter, well done all around and big roasted char flavor.

Black pour. World class head volume, lacing and retention.

Quite outstanding nose of chocolate, light roast, caramel, molasses and a very light touch of char. In the background is a light floral hop note.

Light full body that is quite smooth and silky, but not quite creamy, in texture. Outstanding carbonation / body balance with a mildly effervescent middle and a nice prickly finish.

The flavor profile is world class. The higher hopping rate adds a new component to this already complex porter. It begins with roast that shifts to bakers chocolate just before the middle. The middle is buttressed by a rich caramel and molasses sweetness that makes the chocolate shine and shift from bakers to sweet chocolate. Here the hops also shine contributing a moderate bitterness and pine/grapefruit note. As the bitterness fades, the hop flavor shifts to light sweet fruit as the solid malt base sweetness ascends into the close. The finish is a delicious slow fade of chocolate and hops. A light char note lingers.
