This is a good example of not judging a beer solely by its pour; this ale is not the most pleasant to view. This ale poured a murky brown with lots of sizable sediment floating in the glass. When held up to the light, there are some hints of red. On a more positive note, the off white head was very foamy and sustained with nice lacing.

And now for the positive: the aroma was fresh, fruity with very nice hops wafting from the can.

The flavor is rather complex with a nice and solid malt background that gives the ale a slightly chewy taste and feel. However, this is no cloying mess as the zesty hops give a flavorful fruity taste. By fruity, I mean the dark, mellow fruits - not the citrus variety. In fact, I am reminded of figs and plum when sipping this ale.

The mild carbonation and long, semisweet mouth feel only add to an excellent drinking experience.

This is one of my top "amber" or "red" ales, and I have tried quite a few. After the initial pour, this is one solid and dangerously drinkable ale. You would never know this ale is 7.2 ABV.
