If I had to choose Either Or, I would have to choose this version. A delicious 'black ale'.
The 12 oz bottle pours out a very dark black color with a fairly thick viscosity. With a very aggressive pour I get a half finger cocoa brown head that quickly turns into a film over the beer. Light lacing and medium alcoholic legs make this one a thick beer to be reckoned with.
The smell is of fruity pebble hops, a bit of roasted chocolate, and sweet candied sugars.
The first tastes are of a nice balanced roasted grain with hints of chocolate, molasses, and sweet sugars. The bitterness from the hops comes through towards the end and really end it well. There are some fruity sweetness' that I pick up off of the hops which make it interesting to drink. A bit of astringent nature in the mouthfeel is interesting and somewhat unexpected.
Really sweet overall with light hop bitterness in the end. A really delicious beer that I enjoyed more than Or.

355 ml bottle, from Ølbutikken (or possibly Høkeren), Copenhagen. ABV is 11.2%. Pitch black colour, minimal tan head. Lovely complex aroma with roasty and vinous notes, coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice, cedar wood and honey. Warming mouthfeel. The flavour is very malty and sweet with strong roasty notes, coffee, molasses, honey, wood, dark bitter chocolate and liquorice. The sweetness is to some extent balanced by resinous American hops. A mighty fine beer!

This thing really held up well. Dark brown velvety appearance, with a tan loose head and a lingering surface film. Chocolate, molasses, dates, espresso. Moderate body and carb, creamy mouthfeel.

12oz bottle poured into a Hill Farmstead oversized wine glass.
A~ pitch black, tiny tan head, and a little bit of lacing.
S~ tons of dark roasted malts followed by citrusy, earthy hops. theres also a little caramel and molasses lingering.
T~ i'm so surprised that theres still a decent hop presence for how old this is! other than the roasted malts and hops, theres a lot of honey sweetness and a little bit of burnt coffee as well.
M~ drinks like a stout, tastes like an IPA! i'll blame that on the honey, it definitely adds a nice thickness making this brew extremely unique! other than that, nice carbonation despite its appearance.
O~ if you're wondering why i'm reviewing this, it is in fact an HF/Grassroots colab. haha! and a really good one at that! i must get my hands on Or now to see how they compare. i'm a little late for the ones that were actually brewed in VT at this point but thats quite alright cause this actually blew me away a little bit. still worth a shot if you have one around!

12oz bottle poured into taster glass, about a 4oz pour.
A- Pours a dark brown, almost black with fairly little head and spotty lacing.
S- Licorice, slight dark chocolate, some cedar, hops pretty faded. Average aroma strength, decently pleasant.
T- Licorice, honey, light dark chocolate, some honey, hints of cedar, roasted malt on the finish along with some booze. Flavorful but a bit too boozy, hops have definitely faded.
M- Medium bodied to a little bit fuller then usual, smooth for abv with a little bit of a kick, decent carbonation.
O- This was a decent black ale for having been released ~3 years ago. The hops have without a doubt pretty much faded completely but the other flavors are still there. In my opinion it was a little bit too boozy and definitely does not need to be over 11%. I would have loved to have tried this fresh as I think the hops would have hid the booze a little bit more.
