Bottle shared at Aniela's birthday by me. Served in a taster glass.
A - Dark mocha foam settles to wisps, a thin collar, and a brownish glass-coating film. Body is pitch black.
S - Roasted and charred malts, raisins, molasses, anise, dark fruits, nebulous spices, chocolate fudge, and a touch of alcohol. There's a slight aged, oxidative quality, but this has held up quite well.
T - The taste is less boozy, with more chocolate fudge, and lighter notes of anise, roast, and char. There's perhaps a hint of smoked malt in there for good measure. Seems more 'fresh' than the aroma.
M - Full-bodied, smooth texture, lower carbonation, and surprisingly low lingering stickiness for a Cigar City offering. Not much heat here; seems like there booze only pops up in the aroma. In any case, sufficiently hefty for 10% and spot on for the style.
D - Quite good, and definitely more Cigar City in flavor profile than Mikkeller. Nice mix of sweet and roast flavors and good depth of flavor. If you're sitting on this, drink up, as I don't think it's going to improve.
