Pours a hazy straw color. The head is smallish but fluffy white.
The aroma is spicy with coriander and orange peel.
The taste is quite assertive. There are some bold flavors of peppers and spice in there as well as some citrusy hops. It is also sweet tasting.
Moderate on the palate with some low carbonation.
Cracker is a pretty good beer and quite bold.

It seems as though Cigar City has really embraced CANning of their beers, and just in time to be a part of The CANQuest's (TM) rapid approach to review # 1,000! I scored this at Monde Market in Philly this past weekend and I am now on the lookout for Hotter Than Helles in a CAN.

From the CAN: "White Ale Brewed with Curacao Peel and Coriander"; "Drink fresh! Do not age! Pour gently into a glass."; "The Cracker Cowboys of Florida were colonial-era settlers, often of Scots-Irish descent, who arrived in Florida when Spain traded their territory of La Florida to the English. The term Cracker in Florida usage relates to the whips these 'cow hunters' used to herd cattle in Florida's Palmetto Prairies. Called Quaqueros by the Spanish, these hardy and hard working Cracker Cowboys helped to shape the history of Florida, the nation's oldest cattle raising state. We brew Florida Cracker White Ale with unmalted wheat, orange peel and coriander and then ferment it with a French Saison yeast strain to give it a spicy and dry finish. Perfect for a warm day on the Palmetto Prarie."

The admonition to "pour gently" does not sit well with The CANQuest (TM), whose perfection of the inverted Glug has been an ongoing venture. I promised the ex-Old Lady, however, that if a CAN specifically forbade this sort of treatment, then I would abide by the brewer/brewery's wishes. The Crack! unveiled a brimful CAN and so a very gentle Glug ensued. It saddened me to do business that way, especially since I only got a sheen of fizzy, bone-white head that quickly dissipated to wisps as a result. Color was a hazy lemon-yellow (SRM = 4 to 5). Nose was kind of light in terms of both orange peel and coriander. My first draught gave me a fizzy, highly carbonated mouthfeel and the taste remained muted for the style. Yes, I was getting the citrus and spice flavors, but nowhere near what I am used to from other beers in the style. Finish was semi-dry and really kind of bland overall. A swing and a miss from a usually stellar brewery.

Poured into a pint glass, nice full head developed, white, with descent retention and lacing. Appearance was a light haze with a golden wheat color. Aroma had notes of citrus and yeast. Taste had strong noted of yeast and bread. Mouthfeel was medium with a dry and slightly sour aftertaste.

Enjoyed out of a 12 oz can with a canning date of OCT 31, 2013 stamped on the bottom. Poured into a 16 oz nonic style tumbler.

Apperance - Hits all the checkmarks that one would expect for a witbier: sunny golden yellow hue with noticeable haziness bordering on cloudy drifting through the liquid along with lazy trails of carbonation bubbles journeying to the surface to replenish an effervescent stark white head of about two and a half fingers thick. Retention is moderate, with the foam starting to fade after a couple minutes, leaving faint lacing, but not much in the way of rings as I drink it down.

Starts with some pleasant tartness--but light, nothing even close to sour--initially with undertones of sourdough and toasted wheat. From there, the aroma grows into notes of coriander and spice, lemon zest and orange peel. Overall, the smell is ethereal and light, as it should be for the style, even though I prefer a bit more spiciness to my wits.

Taste - The sourdough and wheat are still the primary flavors in this beer, with the spice and citrus simply providing a nice complement to the wheat base. I didn't get them in the aroma, but the taste does have some hints of soft vanilla and chamomile along with the coriander.

Mouthfeel - Light bodied and moderate carbonation, with a semi-dry finish.

Overall, a very tasty take on the witbier. It's a bit lighter and more apologetic than my favorite versions of the style, but one that I would love to have on a hot summer day, when too much witbier spice might come across as suffocating.

A - golden in color, turbid/cloudy, tightly packed thick white head, spritzy. S - Banana, mild citrus and floral tones. T - Sweet maltiness, orange peel, prickly spice, decent balance. M - Med body lightens w/ high carb and spice. O - Very drinkable US weisse beer with tropical citrus tones fitting for Florida.

12 ounce can. There is "canned on" dating on the bottom of the can, but its undecipherable/smudged to sh%t, oh well, they tried...

Pours super typical, wit beer, clouded and dull light tangerine, off white head, that stays a bit, but leaves minimal lace.

Potent nose of coriander, orange and cloves, nice.

Tasty, zesty, assertive and quite enjoyable Florida, USA take on the classic Belgian style. Cigar city knows what they are doing and its been showing in every can that I've been enjoying of this "Cracker" beer. On the palate the themes established by the sniff carry forward. More orange, more coriander and more cloves. Aggressive and peppery hopped up finish seals the deal.

Gotta love quality beer in a can...Well done Cigar city...
