From 750mL bottle to tasting glass at a NoVA Beer Tasting on 10/23/11
*From notes

A: Pouring from the top of the bottle yields a pretty clean, slightly hazy amber golden. A standard pour yields a 1.5 finger head that sticks around for a while and minor lacing.

S: Somewhat vinous, quite like acidic and citrusy New Zealand Sauv Blanc.

T: A bit stodgy up front. As it opens, the fruit reveals itself and is extremely pleasant on the back end.

M: Compared to CCB's funky version of Guava Grove, this has a more viscous consistancy. But don't misunderstand: in no way is this thick and dense, it's merely not the refreshingly crisp beer that the Grove was.

O: CCB's Guava Groove is a solid beer. I'd drink it sooner rather then later, as I could see the guava falling off in short order. In terms of preference, I'd take one of these, sure. But if given a choice, pass me a funky Guava Grove.

Review from notes.

A: Pours a hazy orange, very foamy head, great retention and lacing. This beer foamed up instantly upon pouring and stuck around for a most of the time it took to drink it.

S: Lots of guava. Drank side by side with Guava Grove, and the Groove had significantly more fruit on the aroma. It was rather pithy with some caramel and a little bit of citrus.

T: Lots of guava as expected, but there was not as drastic a difference between the flavor of the Groove vs. Grove than on the aroma. A little bit of spice and citrus comes through as well.

M: Medium bodied, a little thick for a saison. Slight alcohol presence right at the end. Finishes dry.

O: As the name implied, this beer was filled with Guava. I thought it was pretty good, and while not overly complex, was tasty and that’s what matters most.

Poured from a bottle that I faithfully brought back from a recent trip to Tampa.

A - Pours a peach color with a large puffy head that settles down with no lacing on glass.

S/T - To be honest, I was expecting a bit more from the guava and expected it to be very fruit forward. Instead, it was a mildy more fruity saison and as a result I got a little less yeast and pepper taste as a result of the fruit infusion .

M - Pretty thin and bubbly but nothing to write home about.

O - A pretty lackluster performance from my take and not what I expected at all. To me, the best thing was the cool retro looking label and printing. Ready to take out the roller skates and listen to disco. Sadly, that was the best part, I would not buy this one again.

A: Pours a slightly hazy brownish orange color. Forms an extra large, big bubbled, white head. Decent retention, but only the faintest bit of lacing.

S: The aroma is sweet with a noticeable floral quality. Guava and lemon pepper dominate.

T: Unsurprisingly the dominant flavor is of guava. Moderately sweet with a slight unripe fruit tanginess. There is a little pepper and spice on the finish, but it's really quite faint.

M: Light bodied with heavy carbonation and a smooth sweetness. Overcarbonated, really.

O: A pretty good, drinkable beer, though, considering how good Gauva Grove is, I'll admit I was expecting a bit more from this one. Quite one dimensional with the flavor and scent of guava dominating over everything. However, I can't say this beer didn't warn me - it was quite evident this one was going to be a guava-bomb from the get-go.
