dark brown/black pour with 2 fingers of foamy tan head, slow dissipation. smells very heavy on the booze - oak barrels, scotch, vanilla, raisins/rum, brown sugar. getting a lot of sweet malt (but not cloyingly sweet), some subtle roasted flavor, subtle oaky taste, brown sugar and dark fruit (fig/plum) are dominant, definitely cannot taste tha alcohol anywhere as much as you can smell it. medium body with high carbonation.. a little odd to have this much carbonation in a dark beer with this high abv content, but it helps make it slightly easier to drink somehow.
i'm not a huge fan of this style particularly, but this is a very enjoyable beer and fairly easy to drink (considering the abv and size of the bottle) on an early fall evening. kid's asleep, wife's in bed - it's just me, kingdom hearts, and this bottle.

Dad got this for me in FL last year. Thanks a lot pops!
From a 750 into a CCB tulip
APPEARANCE: A slow pour yields a two finger, medium-loose looking, foamy, light tan head with good retention. Muddy sienna brown with higher levels of carbonation. Head slowly fades to a solid foam cap. A foam film remains but leaves o lacing down the glass. Lots of carbonation in this one.
SMELL: Fruity with sweet caramel and toffee aromas. Dark fruits such as raisins and dates, with some funky hay notes. Some apples and notes of leather as well. Bold enough.
TASTE: Potent and boozy, though it's only 8% and change. Leather, caramel with sweet dark fruits as well. Raisins and dates again, with spicy alcohol at the swallow. Bold but dry aftertaste of sweet fruits, light bitter chocolate, some spicy booze and some hay flavors from the saison yeast.
PALATE: Thinner body and higher levels of carbonation. Light but creamy, goes down okay and finishes slightly dry. Some burn after the swallow. Too light and carbonated.
OVERALL: This is alright, but it's overcarbonated and the light feel doesn't work well. It's also pretty boozy for the abv. There are some scotch ales that I quite enjoy, but haven't found one from CCB that agrees with me yet. Can't win 'em all. Thanks again dad! Appreciate the haul.
