On tap at BA Hunahpu Day. Reviewed from notes. Poured into a CCB snifter.
Appearance - Pitch black with a small dark chocolate head. The retention on regular Hunahpu is something to marvel. This isn't as good. Dies down rather quickly.
Smell - Oak all over, peppery spice and a lot of chocolate. The oak is dominant in this. Fresh and woody smelling.
Taste - The oak comes through before any other flavor. The peppers and chocolate are diminished. The peppers are almost completely gone compared to regular Hunahpu. Bitter and oaky finish. Astringent from the woods. Tannins.
Mouthfeel - It's heavy, but not as viscous. Not as chewy as regular. The oak is too much in the finish.
Overall - Virgin oak barrel did nothing for this. In fact, I think it made it worse. Still a quality stout. The wording of my review is probably more biting than the numerical rating a give it, simply because I was disappointed it didn't live up.

From 01/14/12 notes. Tried side by side with MZ, Hunahpu, and all the other variants. This one was my least favorite.
a - Pours a pitch black color with 1 inch of dark tan head and moderate carbonation evident. Looks like the others.
s - Smells of oak, pine, vanilla, chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, toasted malts, and light cinnamon. Less spice and of the base beer here, and a ton of piney/oak in the nose. Nice, but no where near the others.
t - Tastes of oak, wood, burnt malts, pine, ashy, roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, light spices. Again, a ton of piney oak.
m - Thick, full bodied stout and low carbonation. Very nice and creamy.
o - Overall this one is least like the others, and the only one I didn't like better than the MZ and normal Hunahpu. Don't get me wrong, this is still a good beer, but might not be worth seeking out due to the rarity.

Tasted side-by-side with regular, Bourbon, Rum, and Whiskey versions. Thanks to everyone for making this happen. Served in a Cigar City snifter.
Pours near black with a good light mocha head. Thin collar throughout. The nose is pretty heavy on the oak with some vanilla, chocolate, and stout behind that. Base beer is a bit hidden in the flavor as the oak comes more forward. Still some spice, vanilla, and chocolate. Body is medium with a nice oakiness plus a good dosage of vanilla. Slight tannins. Really tasty. Boom.
