Served this on a CCB Snifter from the 750ml bottle.
A: pours a viscous black jet oil color with a very small coffee head, literally no lacing present.
S: sweet roasted malts, peppery scents, sweet coffee smell with touches of cinammon. Spiced rum is definitely present. Very well balanced.
T: this one had a strong bitter liquory and boozy feel at the beginning that was never offensive. Roasted malts, dark coffee, spiced cinnamon, peppermint, some dark chocolate. Ends with a nice alcohol kick in the throat.
M: smooth, creamy, viscous composition, full bodied with balanced carbonation.
O: my second favorite out of the three different barrel aged versions released in 2011 by CCB, this is a phenomenal imperial stout that packs a formidable taste and smell with a one of a kind feel. Worth waiting and 'fighting' in line for this brew at release day.
. bitter liquory roasted malts dark coffee leaves a liquory aftertaste and the abv definitely kicks yiu inthe throat mf is excellent smooth creamy soft full body. score 4.5 4.5 4.0 5.0 4.5

Thanks for opening this with me, VaTechHopHead!
(Aged for 1 year)
Black on black with a small espresso brown head. Spots of lacing left down the glass. Thick and rich looking. Nobody makes better looking imperial stouts than Cigar City.
The rum/barrel combo is front and center, perhaps more so than of all the variants. There's a woody sweetness that's dominant and overpowering, along with the base beer almost hidden in the background: roast, chocolate, and mild char. The chile elements from the base beer is all but gone, but I suppose that can be expected.
Very sweet and oak-forward flavor, along with mild roast, chocolate, and char. As with the aroma, the barrel and the spirit is very much the star of the show. Unfortunately, I don't like rum and/or rum barrel-aged beers nearly as much as I do bourbon/scotch/whiskey. Unbalanced and boozy, at least compared to the other variants.
Full bodied with low carbonation. Creamy, silky mouthfeel.
The weakest of the Hunahpu variants.

Another mega whale brought by jh1982 to the March Madness tasting. The most disappointing one imho as well.
Pours all good, black to dark brown, the big black consistency I've seen with the big ol' Marshal Zhukov stout from these guys, decent 1/2" head that is a very dark tan. Looks impressive. Ugh, the aroma though, look I don't like rum, and this thing smelled mostly of rum and rubbing alcohol from my nose's perspective. Totally not a smell I enjoy, and drowned out my ability to perceive anything but those two things.
Taste, eee gad, more of the same, just really, really tasted like a rum boilermaker, but with 2-3 shots in the beer instead of just one. Any complexity or other flavors is completely lost on my palate at this point.
Must love rum to love this beer, I dunno. Liked the base version so much more.

Had an NWIBDU tasting. Thanks!
S - Peppers, chipotle, dark chocolate, vanilla, caramel, rum barrel, and dark fruit
T - Dark chocolate, fudge, tons of cinnamon and caramel. The rum comes through to add flavor and complexity with its light booze and spice presence
M - Thick and chewy with light astringency from the peppers
O - Amazing huna with a great rum presence.

Pours a big viscous oily black with a fluffy dark brown head with short retention. Nice lacing from the collar.
Has the typical deep rich brownie and bold nose. Has some barrel oak character leaning towards the rum notes. A little caramel and molasses.
Again big rich character of course. Interesting how the barrel character is still pronounced with the age. Big deep bitter chocolate brownie.
Creamy and velvety mouth with low carb.
An amazing beer. Tough to follow the apple brandy with, but still incredible.

Thanks to Joe for this one. 750ml waxed and capped 750ml bottle poured into a Hill Farmstead snifter. Reviewed from notes.
Pours pitch black with a dense, dark, .5 finger mocha colored head with poor retention. Thick, oily, impressive legs with spotty lace that doesn't stick around. As expected given the base beer.
Nose is boozy with aromas of chili peppers, chocolate, sweet soy sauce, brownie, and cocoa graininess. Very aromatic, robust, and deep. The chili peppers really work here. Very nice.
Opens chocolate and fudge with some chili spiciness in the back. A moderate amount of heat reveals the barrels towards the middle. Chocolate really gets accented by the rum barrels. Some fudge and brownie. End is some chili spice. Finishes sweet cocoa powder and dark chocolate. Aftertaste of dark chocolate fudge. Flavors are really well integrated here and the barrel aging works perfectly to accent the flavors present.
Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation. Oily and filmy in the mouth and viscous and thick going down. Accented finish with a sticky, lingering aftertaste. Slightly too much bubbles here.
This is significantly better than bottled regular Hunahpu's. The barrel aging works perfectly, the flavors are appreciatively complex, it looks good, and the aroma is incredible. The only knock is a touch of overcarbonation for the style. Still, very good.

750 mL bottle poured into a CCB snifter. Reviewed from notes.
Appearance - As always, it's the blackest of stouts. Small dark mocha head. Chocolate ring around the top of the beer. Stains the glass as I swirl it.
Smell - Chocolate, rum, coffee, barrel notes of wood and vanilla. Slight spice from the chilies. Awesome, even though I don't love rum barrels.
Taste - Sweet rum flavors up front and then the chilies. The chocolate and chilies blend perfectly. The barrel adds a hint of char, vanilla, molasses, and toffee. The sweeter flavors are kicked up just a bit in this variant.
Mouthfeel - Thick and chewy. Low carbonation. Tingly booze. Very slow drinking.
Overall - Extremely complex. Delicious, but over the top. Again, it's tough to compare. There's always something lost and something gained this these Hunahpu variations.

Poured form a 750ml waxed bottle to a delirium snifter.
Pours a a thick oily black color that shot up about an inch of dark brown head that settled to a ring around the glass. No lacing.
Super rich nose. Lots of chocolate, malty sweetness, just a hint of booze with a bit of rum sweetness.
Taste is big on chocolate, I do get more alcohol and rum than in the nose. I am missing the chilies, there is a bit of a bite on the back of the tongue, it's coming out a little more as the beer warms up.
The mouthe feel is awesome, very creamy, a real full body, medium light carbonation, a bit sticky, really sits well on the pallet.
Overall I feel this guy has lived up to the hype, an awesome brew.

A massive thanks goes out to bross242 for bringing this one out during cmrillo’s 40 Beers* @ 40 Birthday Bash! Served from bottle into a Cigar City snifter. Poured pitch black with a half finger brown head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, wood, sugar, sweet alcohol, vanilla, and spices. The flavor was of sweet malt, roasted malt, wood, vanilla, cinnamon, sugar, and sweet alcohol. It had a heavy feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a great brew. Having this one directly after the Bourbon version helped to be able to pick out the differences in the barrels selected to age this brew. This version was a lot more sweet than the bourbon version. I have to say that this worked better for the brew to balance out the sweetness. A definite must try for any –bal fan out there.

750ml bottle poured into a CCB Snifter.
Pours a dark, inky black with a creamy mocha head that fades to a slight ring and swirls of haze. Amazing aromas of dark roasted malt, chocolate brownie batter, sugary Rum, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper. This smells so ridiculously sweet and decadent. Taste is pretty close to the nose, lots of typical big, roasty Hunahpu's flavors of malt, chocolate, and coffee with spices and lots of sweet Rum goodness. Mouthfeel is big and creamy, with a full body and good carbonation. This was my favorite of all the variants (Rum>Whiskey>Virgin Oak>Bourbon), and easily the most memorable!

black as night oil like liquid which had a huge tan head that really very slowly faded leaving behind lots of gooey sticky brown lace. Very frothy and pillow like head, lots of waves in it.
strong, main hints were of caramel, with some chocolate mixed in and a strong alcohol presence. Lots of wood, rum and alcohol notes and a smooth woodsy feeling. Lots of sweet vanilla and almost a mocha smell as well, very sweet overall.very very strong. It was smooth, with not alot of carbonation. Huge rum and whiskey type taste hit me right away as did the alcohol, this was not something to be messed with for sure. Very creamy thick feel and very strong alcohol presentation. Hints at french vanilla and a touch of chocolate rounded out the back side and added a bit of sweetness. Near perfection.
