Shared at a recent tasting. Thanks to atxdelivery for breaking this one out! 750ml waxed bottle into a Jester King snifter.

As a side note, this bottle was opened in the midst of a fairly epic tasting, directly on the heels of '11 and '12 Hunahpu's. The Rum version pours with a thick, viscous oily blackness. A wispy, mocha head forms on top. The aroma is heavenly: rum, rum, and more rum, dark chocolate, sweet vanilla, and then some more rum. The sweetness is evident, but balanced nicely by the dark malts and cinnamon spices. Chili heat is all but hidden in the nose at this point.

The flavor packs a sharp rum booziness on the front of the palate that is balanced beautifully by decadent chocolate fudge. Cinnamon and a hint of chili spice linger in the background after each sip. Mouthfeel is creamy, with a thick body that borders on heavy. The alcohol heat in the finish is a little sharp, but not enough to distract from the richness this beer brings. Overall, an excellent rendition of one of my top 10 beers.

Served at a boise imperial stout beer party that had at least 75 great imperial stouts on hand for tasting....This beer was great. easy top 5 beers.
Beer is black with a mocha frothy head Lots of lacing, very little activity.

Aroma is definitely woody, the rums comes through strongly.

Taste- cream and wood almost smoked.

Feel is smooth with low activity on the tounge.

Great beer overall

From 01/14/12 notes. Tried side by side with MZ, Hunahpu, and the other variants. I liked this one second best, slightly better than the whiskey version. 750ml bottle into a snifter.

a - Pours a pitch black color with one inch of dark tan head and low carbonation evident. Looks like the others.

s - Smells of alcohol, oak, vanilla, chocolate, roasted malts, spices, coffee. A lot more roasty than the bourbon version, and more spice.

t - Tastes of of alcohol, sweet dark fruits, oak, roasted malts, bakers chocolate, spices, and light vanilla.

m - Full body and low carbonation. Thick and creamy, great body.

o - Overall another awesome variation of a great beer. I'd list this in between the whiskey and bourbon versions. I thought the whiskey version was hotter than this one, and this one had more roasted characteristics. Would love to have it again.

Tasted side-by-side with regular, Bourbon, Whiskey, and Virgin Oak. Thanks to everyone for making this happen. Served in a Cigar City snifter.

Pours a very deep brown color with a good light mocha head. Thin bits of lace and a nice collar on the way down. The nose carries a nice dose of rum and molasses plus strong Hunahpu's base characteristics coming through. Really great integration between the spirit and the chiles, vanilla, and cinnamon. Really complex, and that continues through the flavor. Very chewy and viscous with low-ish carbonation. Absolutely delicious. Boom.

Thanks for sharing, Jeff. Sampled next to the Regular, Whiskey, AB, and Bourbon.

A: Pours near black with a very thin light brown head that faded into a faint collar. Looks like the original.
S: The nose is dominated by almost nothing but rum. This beer is sweeter smelling than the other, which makes sense given the barrel. I might get a hint of chocolate and caramel from the base beer, but this beer is very rum forward.
T: Again, rum dominates, but I get some notes of cocoa and fudge. This beer tastes sweeter and more alcoholic than the other treatments. I’m not getting very much vanilla, and the barely pick up the cinnamon in the aftertaste. The chilies have been overpowered by the sweet rum. I do get flavors of marshmallows which I didn’t detect in the other versions.
M: Boozy, almost hot alcohol warms my mouth as I swallow. This beer is as thick as full bodied as the others, but the alcohol is distracting.
O: I thought this was a strange combination and almost rough to drink. Definitely my least favorite of the treatments I tasted.

Served side-by-side with all of the other variants, thanks for everyone that made this a reality. Served in a Cigar City snifter because. This was my second favorite one of the night.

Beer is black with a mocha frothy head of tiny bubbles, almost looks like nitrogen bubbles. Lots of lacing, low carbonation, low retention looks awesome.

Aroma is definitely woody, the rums comes through strongly, a very nice beer, good aggressive aroma.

Beer is medium in body, pretty sweet and the liquor comes through strong, finishing a little dry and mild oakiness in the finish. One of the best beers I've had in a long time.

A big thanks to Hank for sharing this!

Pours a black viscous fluid with brown highlights. Dark tan head laces the beer.

Notes of rum, vanilla, and oak emanate from the beer. Slight hint of chilies and cinnamon. Nice balance between the rum and the original beer.

Strong rum and oak dominate flavor. Nice layered complexity but alcohol burn very present.

Full mouthfeel present like other variations.

Another very interesting variation of this beer.

750 mL bottle.

Pours viscous and dark black with chocolate edges. Dark mocha head, fades to a collar, with some legs. Awesome intense aroma of both the rum barrel and cinnamon and vanilla from Hunahpu. Again the flavor of the rum is an excellent compliment to Hunahpu. Cinnamon and vanilla is still mild, but the strongest of the variations. No harsh or bitter flavors, my favorite of the variations next to Apple Brandy.

Barrel-Aged Hunahpu's tasting! Thanks to all the guys in the tasting group who helped make this happen.

The beer is, like all of the Hunahpu's variants, profoundly dark. Ominous black with a thick, oily beige head. An awesome appearance for an imperial stout. Lacing stains the glass.

The aroma brings a slightly sweet booze quality, though it's hard to pin it down as rum. Oak comes through as well. The aroma is more complex and well balanced than either the whiskey or bourbon variants.

Really nice flavor. Oh yeah, I like this one. Just an ever so slightly sweetness, with lingering rum and oak flavors. Fantastic.

Similar feel as the other variants: fairly low carbonation, silky smooth.

Overall, outstanding. My favorite of the Hunahpu's variants. Highly recommended.
