Like others have reported, this beer was a gusher. I've never had one to this extent, losing close to half the bottle. I'm just glad I opened it next to the sink.

In a snifter the beer was a hazy orange color. There was a huge white head, but with little staying power.

A spicy aroma, some citrus. Sweet.

A lot more in the taste. Grapefruit, orange, and tangerine. Coriander and pepper. Sweet biscuit.

A little too sweet and spicy for me.

Thanks to Dixonian for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a light orange-yellow color with a white head. The aroma is heavy on the tropical fruit, with a lot of grapefruit and a hint of orange. There is also some biscuit malt in the aroma. The flavor has some strong grapefruit notes, with some orange citrus, Belgian yeast, white pepper and biscuit malt thrown in. The alcohol is well hidden. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle (2012)

Thanks for sending me this one, DSho!

A gusher. I lost almost half of the bottle upon opening.

Hazy, cloudy dark orange with a large, persistent, thick and creamy head. Very high carbonation makes this one tough to pour, eventually leaving thick ribbons and chunks of lacing down the glass.

Sweet and complicated aroma, though nothing here is particularly pleasant. Lots of herbaceous notes, honey, artificial vanilla sweetness, and black pepper don't combine particularly well here.

The flavor is similar to the aroma, with unfortunate amounts of artificial vanilla, honey, medicinal notes, and harsh booze.

Medium bodied with high carbonation.

I didn't care for this one.

750ml Bottle into a Bruery Tulip.

Pours a deep orange with a healthy white head. Cloudy, but inviting.

Nose is somewhat sweet. Classic Saison yeast presence with a hint of citrus and a touch of wood. Everything sits in proper balance.

Taste places the fruity yeast esters front and center. Hint of alcohol on the finish. I'd like to see the grapefruit wood more front and center. That said, this is one of the better tasting American Saisons I've had in awhile.

Mouth is slick, medium bodied. Maybe a touch heavy for the style, but it works with the flavor profile.

Overall, this is a really good American Saison. The problem with many American-brewed Saisons is that they could double as BSPAs. This one is squarely within it's style, with a really good twist from the wood treatment (even if I wish it were more pronounced).

Lateral tasting from bottles from Lueken Liquours. Grapefruit, a little sweet and subtle spicy. The real show was the greatest gusher in thousands of beer bttles opened.Lighter colour than the cedar

750ml bottle

A- Poured into a Cigar City tulip glass. Pours a golden yellow/orangish color.

S- The aroma is sweet malt, citrus, orange peel, spices, some woody notes from the grapefruit wood and finally some yeast.

T- The taste has a little bit of tartness and sweetness up front with some citrus and spices as well.

M- The mouthfeel is light bodied with a high amount of carbonation.

O- Overall, I really enjoyed this one. Great beer!

750 mL bottle poured into a Hill Farmstead tulip. Bottle dated 12/8/2011.

Appearance - Loud fizz as I open the bottle and it gushes. I was quite startled and almost broke my glass. Pours a mostly clear orange body with a huge head that fades to a decent surface foam. Lacing clings to the glass, but it isn't heavy.

Smell - Biscuit malt all over. Sweet aroma with loads of esters and yeast. Citrus fruits dominate the aroma behind the malt. Grapefruit, but maybe just because of the label. A touch of funk from the yeast, but not much.

Taste - Sweet pale malt overload. So much malt that it overwhelms a lot of the fruit flavors. Tropical fruits persist in the taste, but it's less evident than in the aroma. The finish is where the wood dominates. Very woody and bitter in the finish that at least combats the sweetness, but is still too much.

Mouthfeel - After a while, the sweetness becomes too much. Sluggish to drink, especially for a saison. The bitter woody finish is tiring as well. Well carbonated, though!

Overall - Interesting concept, but it's just too big. Maybe just less malt and less wood would really make this a fascinating concept.

Big thanks goes out to beermeX2 for sharing this one during a recent tasting! Gusher!!! Served from bottle into a Mikkeller taster flute. Poured a hazy golden yellow-orange with a half finger pure white head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, banana, wood, grapefruit, and citrus. The flavor was of sweet malt, grapefruit, wood, fruit, and citrus. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty good brew. The flavor on this one was fairly well balanced and really made it easy to drink. The grapefruit aspect in this one was definitely the dominate factor going on. A really well put together brew that I would love to have more of in the future.

A-
POURS A DEEP ORANGE WITH A THICK FLUFFY HEAD.

S -
YEAST RIGHT OUT OF THE BOTTLE. FOLLOWED BY A REAL POTENT SWEET ORANGE SCENT. SCENT IS ROUNDED OUT BY A CORIANDER GINGER COMBO

T-
REALLY SWEET ORANGE UP FRONT AND I FIND THIS TASTES TAKES OVER MOST OF THE TASTE. SLIGHT SPICY TANGY NOTES TOWARDS THE END

M -
LIGHT BODY NOT VERY BUBBLY, AND THERE IS A TINGLY SENSATION ON THE TONGUE

O -
BEER HAS POTENTIAL IF AGED. HAD THE BOTTLE FOR 3 MONTHS BEFORE I POPPED IT PROABLY WOULD BE BETTER IN ANOTHER 5 MONTHS. IF THE SWEET ORANGE PEEL TASTE FADES.

750ml bottle

Pours a hazy orange with a thin white head that settles to a slight ring. Big aromas of orange peel, grapefruit, and Belgian yeast. Reminds me of a citrus-bomb Duvel. Taste is similarly citrusy, with lots of orange, wood, and spicy coriander. Crisp, slick mouthfeel with a medium body and good carbonation. Very smooth. Overall my favorite of the Dos Costas variants!
