Bottle pour at the DTLA bottle share held at Beer Belly in Los Angeles, CA.

Thanks to Earlycsquid for sharing this one.

Bottled 12/2011.

Pours a murky dark orange with a foamy beige head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus zest, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with lemon and citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that smells and tastes fairly old after almost 2 years in the bottle.

A - Hazy orange lemon with small off white head 3

S - Orange, lemon, coriander, bit sweeter than expected 3

T - Lemon, bubblegum, slight wheat. Lemon comes across in the backend with a light tartness. Slightly Belgianrsque with the bubblegum. Also got some dark fruit sweeetness

MF - Medium carbonation but a thick body with more syrupiness than I'd expect

O - Much sweeter than I'd like in a Saison. It just has too much going in and it doesn't meld together well.

My parents brought me back this bottle from Florida, dated December 2011, and poured into a Deschutes goblet. CAUTION - This one was a bottle bomb! Totally gushed as soon as I popped the cap, so have caution and open over the sink.

A - Pours a beautiful hazy golden orange, with a fluffy off-white colored head. No lacing left behind as I sip on this one.

S - The smell is a slightly sour funky acidic alcohol aroma, with some citrus notes mixed in.

T/M - The beginning of the taste is an acidic lemon zest, the medium opens up to the orange and a little ginger spice. The end of the taste is a little herbal with some slight corriander notes, but not big! Light, very bubbly mouthfeel. Finishes clean and crisp.

O - I am not an expert in this style by far, but this is tasty. I never had a pallate for this style, but I will finish this one. The underlying funk isn't overpowering, but rather complements the other characteristics. All the aspects play nice with each other, and there is no alcohol present at all.

Served bottle poured into a delirium tremens snifter

A - For me this was a classic example of a saison color and clarity. Orangey deep yellow color that poured cloudy with a significant amount of carbonation (exemplified by the almost champagne burst when opened).

S - Boozy sour nose. Definitely has a sour orange citrusy funk the "singes the nostrils" a bit.

T - Sour patch candy feel. Familiar funky saison profile with a sweeter sip. The lemon wood again is apparent with the overall sour citrus taste. Has that high alcohol boozy throat to the finish. For me this is a one serving beer. The large format bottle is best split 3 ways.

M - Great smooth mouthfeel. The sour candy taste makes you want to drink this ale fast. Almost need to remind yourself of the ABV on this one.

O - Never have been the biggest saison fan but overall this is a more than decent example. The beer is tangy, sweet and surprisingly drinkable considering the stats. Love collaboration efforts and this one is for sure worth the price and hangover.
