A - Pours a hazy, cloudy dark orange amber color with a thick two fingered head and super sticky lacing.

S - The aroma is delicate and faint: citrus, coriander, floral, woody, grapefruit.

T - Pine and grapefruit bitterness up front followed with some spice, lemons, floral bitterness, and some bready malt. Orange and lemon comes through with some mild tang, some woodiness, and ends with a citric/piney bitterness.

M - Light medium body, prickly carbonation, coats the mouth with a bready caramel/spice/and zesty citrus bitterness.

O - Drinks quite well, interesting, not my favorite in the way of IPA's but it works.

750ml bottle with my FW snifter glass
Notes taken from 11/16/13

Big thanks to Dopplebockulus for this one!

A: Homefront IPA pours a hazed caramel orange body with a burnt sienna look to it overall. A dense layer of khaki froth forms over the top with some fair retention efforts that leave behind etches of cotton like lacing upon the glass walls.

S: Malt and spice with a distinct honey-maple like sweetness. Light earthy wood and tobacco mixes with some berry fruits. Add in a dash of tropical botanics that start to perk up more as the beer comes to temp. Interesting nose and pleasant overall.

T: Tastes of spiced bread, caramels, earthy wood, and a prominent maple like character. It is on the sweeter side but very dry and tannic. I get some spicy guava and other tropicals mixed in as well. A touch astringent with a higher level of bitterness on the palate. Finishes out more on the fruity side with some tangerine and golden raisin there. Has a malty twang to it that I just can’t quite pinpoint. Alcohol is completely blended in making it practically undetectable. A curious beer. Not sure what to make of it. It is just okay for the most part.

M: Medium fullness in the body with a light frothy texture and high perceived bitterness. Very dry and tannic in the finish with a slight sappy residual effect from the malt sugars and hop oils.

D: Not a favorite by far but a real fun to try…especially for the great cause The malt, spice, and maple wood bats are standout however they get a bit muddled by this sharp tannic bite. To think this was actually dry hopped with Louisville Sluggers. I mean seriously??? I wonder if they used whole bats or the pellets. I actually think the maple bats were pretty distinct and would probably serve much better in a bigger ABV brew like say a barley wine.
