Thanks to Mike M for sharing this, it sounds like something that'll land right inside of my wheelhouse. It follows the Cigar City stout profile perfectly - big, oily, viscous, and black looking on the pour, with a slowly rising, thick, mocha cream head that lasts and lasts and lasts before it slowly starts to dwindle. Man, Cigar City sure knows how to make a badass looking stout.

The aroma encapsulates things that only dream are made of... Well, if you're dreaming of coffee stouts anyway. Deep, oily, and high quality coffee beans conjure up through a sturdy, dark malt backbone. Plenty of roasted barley and what seems like a good percentage of chocolate malt; tiny hints of bittersweet chocolate morsels tap the edge of the nose and complement the heavy coffee aromas perfectly. Yes, please.

Judging from that omnipotent look, I could almost tell how this one was gonna feel, and I was right... huge, slick, smooth, and absurdly creamy mouth feel that just lavishes around the palate and coats your entire mouth with sticky coffee beans all over. I'm not talking bottom of the pot Dunkin' Donuts coffee at 4pm that has been on the burner for an hour - this is high quality, expensive coffee flavor. I would've been happy with some freeze dried Taster's Choice, but Cigar City springs the serious gourmet shit on me. What flavor is this?

It's a pretty black and dark coffee, although it gets a little sweeter over time; just a touch of milky sweetness creeps in with a faint hint of back-end dark fruits. The malts also pile on with each sip and roll your buds after the coffee has taken its toll; dark, bittersweet cocoa nibs with a dry, almost woodsy finish. Again, it gets sweeter with warmth, but that nice roast never fades. Each sip gets better and better and it's sad to finally be looking down at an empty glass.

Cigar City does it again. I used to think Founders was the undisputed king of stouts. And though they make some of my favorites, Cigar City has been quietly nudging away at that title in my mind for a while now, and this beer only helps their cause. Definitely one of the best coffee stouts I can remember having in recent times. The best ever? Not sure. Better than Founders Breakfast Stout (the typical benchmark for coffee style stouts)? Yeah, I think so. This beer is so damn good.

Typical dark CCB stout pour. Nice fluffy tan head that lingers. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, cereal and malt. Viscosity is right where it needs to be. Taste follows the nose very well. Another fantastic CCB offering and a great first release from the brew pub.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Black with a nice khaki head. Thick collar and a lot of surface wisps.

Smell - Buckets of coffee. A bit of an earthy smell. Nice chocolate.

Taste - Lots of coffee again. Slight acidity from it. Milk chocolate. Bitter malt in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Well carbonated. Drinkable stout.

Overall - Very tasty. Good coffee. A lot of it, but good.

Thick and viscous in the pour it set a deep jet black profile with a deep brown frothy head. The lacing was thick and sticky.

The nose was of coffee grounds, chocolate, oats and whipped cream but I was disappointed in a phenolic duct tape aroma.

The flavor starts with chocolate and a lactose-sweetness. It settles midway into a light coffee, caramel malt and whipped cream before finishing strong with roasted coffee.

The feel is dry, thick and viscous in the mouth, smooth and almost velvety.

Other than the phenolic I detected in the nose, you can chalk this up to another top shelf addition from Cigar City.
