Plum colored with a light beige head - murky, completely opaque. Looks like a 15% beer - minimal head, big bubbles, alcohol legs and thin lacing. This is rum bomb - not getting much if any Belgian quad characteristics. Huge coconut, vanilla, rum booziness. Taste is incredibly sweet, cloying really. Tons of rum, though does not have the heat I would have expected.
It's a one-note beer with some excessive aging, really wish the quad could have come through. Really glad to have tried this and enjoyed the bottle regardless.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.
Appearance - Deep reddish brown. Small khaki head. Gone quickly.
Smell - Lots of rum. Vanilla and oak come through. Dark fruits. Booze and brown sugar.
Taste - Huge rum characteristic. Fruity. Very sweet. Brown sugar and caramel. Finishes with a rum barrel alcohol burn.
Mouthfeel - Heavy, boozy, very sweet. Medium low carbonation.
Overall - Well this is huge and boozy, but tasty. Bruery-esque. The barrel is nice, but I bet this quad wouldn't taste anywhere as good without the barrel.

bottle date 7/15/13
appearance: cant tell if its black or dark brown, thin to little head, almost no bubbles, very opaque
aroma: huge molasses and boozy nose, followed by the dark rum barrel treatment. unfortunately the booziness is a bit overpowering
palate: uhh, this beer is 15% and it feels like 7. maybe half of it is lost in the nose, but its incredible how big of a change the booze presence makes. big body, not very acidic, not hoppy, goes down smooth like a quad
taste: molasses, nutmeg, sugar and grapes is what i get out of this. they list apricot and peach, but i cant pick it out. the rum barrels gave it a nice dark sweetness to it.
overall: this is the first beer in the inaugural year for the catador club. ive definitely never had a beer like this by CCB, and its very enjoyable. i think right now theres too much going on with it to make it one of their best beers they've brewed. considering its 15% abv its still amazingly drinkable, has a complex flavor profile and theres a ton going on, but its like it can't find its identity right now. still, its a very nice brew and im really enjoying it. thanks CCB!
