Traditional Caffè Americano is made by adding water to espresso. We break all the rules with this Double Stout. We refuse to add water to our beer after fermentation, but have no issues adding beer to our espresso. This deep, dark stout exhibits rich espresso and coffee notes, which are contributed by the generous use of roasted barley and espresso locally roasted by Buddy Brew Coffee. That simply is not enough for us. We also add roasted, raw chocolate and a hint of vanilla to this big bodied stout. Dodge the red eye and take a shot of the dark.

Unknown vintage

Some more BIF heat from the legendary @Eziel! I’m starting to work my way up to the more acclaimed bottles he sent me now, this one hovering right below the top 250 at the moment. Let’s get into it

Pours a very dark brown with a finger of reddish tan that that quickly fades to a ring and leave minimal lacing

I’m gonna guess this bottle is getting a bit old since there’s not a ton of coffee in the nose, but it’s still good. I’m picking up on aromas of cocoa powder, sweet bourbon, raisin, vanilla bean, dry oak, medium roast coffee, and a touch of bell pepper

Oh yeah, this has lost most of the coffee it once had. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting dark chocolate, vanilla bean, sweet bourbon, toasted oak, caramel, and light raisin. The swallow brings notes of cocoa powder, earthy whiskey, vanilla bean, toasted oak, brown sugar, burnt caramel, and very faint coffee

A medium full body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes slightly sticky and boozy

This one was fine, just not amazing, but that’s definitely a function of age. I’d love to try it again fresh one day

Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma certainly coffee and some booze notes. Taste is mostly booze (whiskey/bourbon) with mild coffee notes. Feel is very good and smooth. Overall it's an easy drinking 12% brew, yikes.

Poured from a bomber bottle into a Duvel glass.

L - Deep brown color like motor oil, with no light allowed through. Medium brown colored head is thick and moussey when poured, like a dollop of brown whipped cream. It fades slowly to a thick ring around the glass and massive sheets of lacing.

S - Massive aromas of coffee and chocolate, backed up by strong roasted, almost burnt grains. This version is not barrel aged, but there is enough alcohol aroma that blends with the other aromas to almost make you think there is whiskey in there.

T - Espresso, chocolate, burnt grain, smoke. Alcohol sweetness mid-palate, followed by an off-dry finish.

F - Thick body with a silky, slightly oily feel. Low to moderate carbonation. Strong hops bitterness combines with burnt grain astringency. Big alcohol presence, but not overly hot.

O - This is a massive stout that still manages to show off subtle flavors and aromas. Maybe the most complex non-barrel-aged imperial stout I've tried. I hope to be able to sample some of the barrel-aged versions of this beer.

On-tap at Mekong, tulip.

Black like black licorice with a ring of real tan that leaves discrete streaks of lace.

Strong roast, vanilla, sticky bun, refined espresso.

This thing is intense. Charcoal, black licorice, sweetened espresso. The flavors reverberate on my tongue.

Thick, sticky, soft carbonation.

I honestly don’t find it exceptionally complex, but it is intense on a level I’ve rarely experienced.
