Bottle shared at Proof Happy Hour. Odd brew. Super dark brown/black with no noticable head. Aroma was heavily spiced like a pumpkin, but also had some cocoa and vanilla. Taste was very malty and had some resiny hoppiness to it as well. Lots of that vanilla/choc from the aroma, still tons of spice, a bit of the squash/gourd/pumpkin but mostly the malt/spice. Mouthfeel was pretty viscous and medium to light carbonation. Mildly enjoyable, but I think it might benefit from a year in the bottle.

750 mL bottle poured into a taster.
Appearance - Black. Inky black, but doesn't look viscous. Thin khaki collar.
Smell - How odd. Chocolate and some licorice. There's a strange, slight vegetable aroma, too.
Taste - Much more chocolatey. Spicier in the back. Licorice is still strong. Still a funny flavor in the back. We decided it's the flavor of a well ripened compost heap.
Mouthfeel - Slick, but not a heavy body. Medium low carbonation.
Overall - What a strange beer.

Good black coloring and when I say black it's dark, flat and black. The texture was nice but the head had little to mount on an died quickly.
All kinds of aromas are in the nose such as pumpkin, chocolate, spice, nutmeg and tobacco. The tobacco is a touch stronger than the other scents.
The flavor is dry with a smokey tobacco, coffee char, a fruity center and dry chocolate at the end. The tobacco in the taste is smokier than the aroma but it is a tinge strong. The gourd flavoring came as the beer warmed.
The feel is dry, light and moderately carbonated but easy enough to drink.

Thanks to Sonny for the bottle.
A- Pitch black pour from the 750ml to a tulip. Thick and creamy mocha tan head to about a finger high with nice retention. Recedes to a small ring and deposits just a few spots of lace.
S- Dark unsweetened cocoa powder off the top in a dark roasty aroma. Deep roasted grains, ginger and allspice come to mind but it's mostly the rich porter characteristics here. Spices open with warmth.
T- Spices and gourds seem to open up here but still don't overpower the rich porter base. Dark grains create the base of the beer with dark hitter cocoa powder, chocolate, toasted nutty and some sweetness. Ginger, allspice and clove spicy hints pair well with the base. Some hints of squash and general vegetable. Belgian yeast adds an interesting spicy and fruity aspect.
MF- Thick bodied for 6% and has a nice creamy texture overall. Moderately low carbonation works well let those dark flavors shine. Spiciness and some roast bitterness lingers in the finish.
Drinks bigger than six percent with a rich porter base and good spices overlaying that.

On tap at the Brew Pub...
a: jet black, with a 2 finger deep brown head, the color of deeply roasted winter squash...
s: chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate, mild spicy/herby aroma. Mild sweet/floralness. (i'm making that a word)
t: loads of chocolate, definitely some squash flavor... like roasted acorn squash. Sweet and roasty. Some spices in there that pair nicely with the chocolates forwardness.
m: creamy... Tim nails his ales on mouthfeel every time.
o: very pleasant beer. everything I was hoping for, and more. Nothing like Good Gourd at all. Highly recommend.
