La Forêt Noire is a reddish-black ale brewed with a mixture of malts (Carafa, Special B) which give it real body and depth – a color and texture reminiscent of chocolate torte. The beer is then blended with cherry wine and fermented cherries, resulting in a dark, roasty beer balanced by the fruity.

I had this in May 2016 and don't have many notes other than it was an extremely tart cherry in that stout. I had a draft, but only a taster from a flight. It was delicious.

From an 11.2 oz. bottle.
Moderate pour yields a big head causing me to stop to wait and then proceed to a one and a half inch light pinkish tan head over a dark cherry, mahogany body with some nice lacing. Super complex nose of cherry, raspberry, strawberry, smoke, dark malt, bitter chocolate, and charcoal. Taste is more cherry and a bit of citrus for a real nice sour experience; not too sweet, not too sour. Very complex all the way around with a nice feel. Overall, yet another fine (and unique!) offering from La Suisse! If you see it, buy it!! Cheers!!!

Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a semi-thick dark brown color close to black with a sly little cap of white foamy head. This decided to take it's time in dissipating and left some messy thin lace.
The aroma had a wonderful blend of sweet dark chocolate rolling into black cherries. Light milk chocolate cake, dusty cocoa powder and even a kiss of black raspberries lighten the underneath.
The flavor had a wonderful blend of sweet to sour and a touch of roasty coffee sweetness. Some black cherries lighten up the middle. Keen aftertaste of roast, coffee, dark chocolate and milk chocolate.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied perhaps just a tad under. Good sturdy carbonation and ABV. Finish was semi-sour with black cherries, milk chocolate, cocoa powder dryness and slight edge of coffee.
Overall, so this is supposed to be 'soured' Russian imperial stout. I'd say it definitely met my expectations to be just that. Would definitely welcome again later on into this winter.

a funky rich stout blended with cherries and cherry wine apparently, and another wonderfully complex and interesting beer from these guys, who dont come around nearly often enough anymore in colorado, but who are making some of the most intriguing beers in the world for my money. i loved this, we all did. surprising acidity for a stout type base, but really, nothing should surprise me anymore when i drink their beers. tart cherries, black malt, subtle smoke and walnut character, medicinal cherry, red wine grapes, licorice, and soot all come together in the nose, united in this tannic pucker, really interesting, sour and clean for what it is, not a lot of wild funk to this, so strange but so engaging at the same time. not overly fruity in the flavor, less than the nose for sure, some almost syrupy winey character, plum and raspberry notes to it, lemons in the acid profile, a little red wine vinegar too maybe, but a coal black grain depth thats unrivaled, raw chocolate, totally unsweetened, charred wood, slow burning pipe tobacco, and wet rich volcanic soil. impressive complexity to this and somewhat of a big, slow drinker, more so than its moderate alcohol content would suggest, and rich and wintery for being sour. like no other in my experience. beautiful and unique beer from one of my favorites!

Pours into a goblet a deep dark chocolate color with a slight ruby/brown tinge,a somewhat fizzy beige head atop.Lactic sour cherries with a tinge of cork stand out most in the nose,a bit of roast and bitter chocolate comes thru as well. It's got a smoother feel than I was expecting looking at the body.Sour almost lactic-like cherry flavors really hit up front on the palate, the sourness lingers in the finish.I pick up some cocoa powder as I drink more but not alot of chocolate.I'am not a fan of all things sour but this is a decent beer for what it is,would have like more of the chocolate torte flavors to come thru.

Dark brown, nearly black body; thin yet lasting light tan head; some yeast sediment resting atop the head. Somewhat sour smell to things; wine-like. Lots of sour cherry flavor; some subtle roasted malt notes way in the background. Rather light for an imperial stout; tart; kind of watery.
The label may state imperial stout but its the "kirsch" (cherry) that stands out. Other than color, there is little stout quality to this beer. As a sour beer, it's okay...

I went into this beer expecting a sour and it delivered a funky and tart cherry flavor. I really like this as a dark sour. If you're expecting a stout you'll be disappointed. Look at it as a dark sour and it's pretty good. B+
