Bottle purchased from Total Beverage, Murfreesboro, TN. Poured into Duvel glass.
Appearance: Large white head, piss gold yellow color. Minor Lacing
Smell: you really smell that belgian yeast, strong hints of coriander and citrus, even grape and apple. This is one of the most complex beers i've ever tasted, thanks in part to the 3 different types of Belgian yeast used.
Taste: If i had to pick 3 words: Complex, Sweet, Amazing. Strong coriander and citrus, very sweet yet so perfectly balanced, there's a lot going on in this beer, but it is not overwhelming at all. In fact, this may be arguably the most drinkable, and thus dangerous, high ABV i've ever had. It's hard to be straight after 2 of these, as I tend to drink them very fast as you do not taste the alcohol whatsoever. The ending slightly resembles champagne, and there is hardly any bitterness whatsoever. It tastes similar to a Duvel, but with a lot more flavor complexities and, in my opinion, is superior. I would recommend this to any one to try as their first Belgian Strong Ale.
Mouthfeel: THis beer is very carbonated, it feels like champagne. It really tingles and leaves a lasting flavor in your mouth, truly a beer to be experienced.
Overall: This has been one of my favorite beers for years, first time having it on tap at Delirium Cafe in Brussels. It almost as good out of the bottle, even in rural Tennessee where they're not the freshest... Every sip reveals new complexities in the taste, it's a very accesible beer and combined with the flashy packaging, is very appealing to people who have never seen it before.
The only Belgian I can say, in my opinion, is superior would be La Chouffe. If you ever see the Pink Elephant on the white ceramic bottle, give it a shot. Pretty much every person i've introduced this to instantly says this is one of the best beers they've ever had. Try one, please. A good price usually falls around $5.99 per 12oz, $10.99-13.99 per 750ml, and $21.99 per 6-pack. Expensive, but worth it.
