My gateway beer, finally reviewed.
Pours a hazy medium gold with a frothy inch and a half ivory head that slowly dissipates, leaving pillowy sheets of lacing.
Green apple, pear, belgian yeast mustiness, and lemon form the initial aroma. Bready malt and belgian candy sugar give the backbone a fairly sweet impression. Pineapple and clove surface late. Esters are fairly citrus dominant.
Pineapple is huge in the flavor initially, with lightly toasted, slightly nutty bready caramel malt and clove hitting mid palate, lingering into a slightly peppery finish. Lime, pear, and green apple are also present.
Body is moderate, but the impression of lightness is imparted by high carbonation. It's effervescent, with moderate alcohol warmth.
Still think this is a great beer. Great belgian esters, not cloying, with a long flavor profile. It's a little hot, and carbonation is higher than I prefer, but great estery flavor.
