Pours like champagne. Beautiful straw colored golden body, fast moving carbonation, below a perfectly white, and very fluffy head; (not sticky on the palate at all, but sticky on the glass).
Smells nutty and malty, very yeasty as well. Mild alcohol smell, not a whole lot. A lot of yeast but also some serious sweet berry notes. Somewhat like blueberry pie, the way the malt and berry smells interact. A little chili pepper in there as well. Tangy.
Taste is complex. Malt and sweetness is all at the front, toastiness and hops at the end. Somewhere in the middle is mild alcohol, though not as much as expected. The yeast and malt from the nose have stuck around and give the beer a deep creamy buttery taste. Mild sweetness, though the sweetness definitely grows as the beer warms (though I had it not all that cold, around 48 degrees, to begin with). Raisins in the aftertaste, though the hops and yeast are what stick around most.
Mouthfeel is light and heavily carbonated. If my taste buds were shot completely I would think I was drinking champagne (look and feel).
$9 for the 750ml bottle, definitely a treat, and worth it. This may not be my favorite style, but this is good beer.
(Side note, USA lost to Belgium just a few days ago in the World Cup, so part of me feels like I'm betraying my country drinking Belgian ale this week... but not that big of a part. Great beer comes first)
