A - poured a two finger white head into a snifter, big retention and plenty of lace, semi-clear, gold honey hued body.

S - pale malt, spicy yeast, light fruit, banana

T - pale malt and pears and apples up front, spicy yeast (pepper), some lemon and honey coming through, floral hops in the background, a hint of alcohol.

M - medium bodied, little carbonation, a light lingering bitterness in the finish, hint of sweetness and dry. The abv is well masked.

O - An excellent strong pale ale that I will definitely have again sometime soon (Beertown has it on tap). It is complex and a real joy to sip on.

Delirium Tremens is a hazy burnt orange beer with a stark white, fluffy head that piles high. Very light bready malt under yeast, pepper and spice. Pleasant and inviting. Sweet biscuit with a significant pepper, spice, and a hint of apple that leads to a dry finish. Spicy sweetness lingers until the next sip. Pepper and spice grows with the warmth initially with the 8.5% alcohol remaining unapparent the entire time. Taste goes a little flat when it warms too long. Oddly, it helps the taste to warm a little, but there's a window of peak flavor for this beer. I've always liked this beer a lot and can see why it's a popular at multiple tap bars. It's a quality beer that's extremely approachable.

When I poured this beer i was shocked at its dreadful appearance. It looked like carbonated pond water. I thought perhaps they were going for something unique, however one taste told me otherwise. How could a beer that had won so much acclaim taste like moldy wet cardboard??? I have huge respect for the reviewers here on BeerAdvocate so I started reading the best and worst reviews. The best describe an amazing, clear, drinkable beer, and the worst describe exactly what I experienced. I am sure both reviews are correct, and no one is hyping or slandering. My concern is that a high gravity beer should have a good long shelf life, and this bottle was less than three, which points to a quality control problem. It may be unfair, but it is true a measure of a good beer is consistency. I will try Delerium again, but only if someone else pays for it.

If anyone is interested in reading my full review it is at http://www.hopsheads.com/wordpress/?p=185 (this is not a commercial site, just my tasting notes for fun)

Cork burst out with a gunshot BANG upon untwisting the cage. My dog is still hiding in the laundry room...

Poured from 750ml bottle to tulip:

Really nice to look at. Light, clear pear color with a healthy head and tons of beading; great lacing. The nose is super estery. Ripe fruits: green apple, banana, also some clove. The taste mimics the nose with the addition of a soft, tangy finish that ends up clean. Extremely drinkable - dangerously so. Overall, a must-try.
