Very light pale yellow with ample foamy head. A very sweet and fruity aroma greets you upon pouring. The taste is equally fruity with some spices, and there's a nice crispness to beer. I'm rather new to Belgiums, but as far as I can tell, this one is a keeper.

Served into a Delirium Tremens wide tulip.

Appearance: gold in color, 1/3 inch head, high carbonation, clear

Smell: crushed apples and Belgian spices dominate

Taste: crushed apples is the dominant flavor, with pear, Belgian spices, bittering hops, and light banana

Mouthfeel: moderate carbonation, sweet start with a super bitter spike and a less bitter end, light bodied

Overall: A nice BSPA. This is not one I would drink all the time, but certainly one to visit every now and then. Of the Delirium beers, this may be my least favorite, but it is still solid.

Poured from the bottle into a Westmalle chalice, would have preferred a tulip glass (next on the list). Fresh beer, well before use by date.

Appearance: This beer pours with an extremely volatile head, but not quite as foamy as some others in the style. The foam structure consists of a multitude of small bubbles forming a large head that dissipated quite quickly, could be the chalice causing that. A thin layer of foam lasted for the whole drink, with a small cloud laying in place at the end of the drink. The clarity of the beer was impressive, and the colour a pure gold.

Smell: By the time I'd sampled the aroma's the head had calmed down quite a lot. A strong and deep caramel/toffee smell, verging on the burnt side, with a strong sweet scent. There were hints of wood, I can't determine what exact wood. A very pleasant and non offensive odour.

Taste: By the time I'd gotten to tasting the head was perfect for the first sip. First a hint of brandy, a slight hint of hop coming through with the wheat. The was a slightly fruity taste but not sweet. There was a hint of bitterness, but this was smooth on the palate and not overpowering. There was a slight citrus taste that came through in the middle of the beer, ending with a slightly stronger alcohol taste at the bottom of the glass. I think the yeasts in this beer tie the other ingredients together with their complexity.

Mouth feel: A first sip lavishes the mouth with fantastically forming bubbles, that flow with a creaminess into the crevices of the mouth. The beer feels slightly thick for this style, but at all times has a silky smooth texture that invites you back for more.

Overall: A delicious beer with surprising and complex tastes, with a depth to it's caramel scent. For a beer of this strength the taste of alcohol was very mild, and contributed to easy drinking. The mouth feel only adds to the ease of taste, inviting the beer into the embrace of every taste bud. There was not a harsh vibe in this beer, save for a slight tang on the tongue towards the end. There was an elusive but pleasant and intriguing scent that only begs for me to explore this beer more.

Conclusion: A definite beer to revisit time and time again, a prime example of the style, don't let the fun marketing fool you.
