11.2 fl oz bottle poured int Duvel tulip glass. A real windy night here in Indiana, thought I would have some of this to warm up a bit.
A - pours exceptionally well, conforming exactly to the standards of the glass, giving a perfect ammount of head ktl...a penetratingly dark brown forms the body, nearly black; even when I hold it up to a light it still remain predominantly black/brown, except for the edges where it is a dark amber. head retains exceptionally well, talk about belgian lace!
S - there is an upfront tartness that has a smell something like granny smith apples, the malts give it a light molasses/brown sugar aroma in the background. there is a bit of caramel as well somewhere in between those two, however, it is quite simple an overall aroma in reality.
T - the initial taste is of dark ripe fruits, as with most belgian darks. this one continues to have some chocolate like bitterness hitting the back of my tongue. there is some suggestion of spice and alcohol during the finish, but other than that there is nothing to make me slow down when drinking this. there is a noticeable sweetness for the after taste that is combined with an indistinct bitterness. nothing amazing to report here in my opinion. I was very disappointed with this beer.
MF&D - the feel was nothing like it should have been, for what I have come to understand belgian strong darks. this was watery, lacking carbonation, and very slick going down. I could drink more than one of these but I would really not want to, I found this really unappealing. it wasn't even watery-bad in the way guiness draught is: I dont want to chug this. the beer could have at lease picked up points for making me want to binge.

An absolute favorite ale from Huyghe brewery. Pours a dense dark brown with a big foamed tan head that dies down to a nice layer with excellent lacing. Nose of dark fruits---plum and raisins, light Belgian yeast and Belgian candy malt. Taste is excellent. Plum and raisins sizzle into the flavor profile with this highly carbonated Belgian delicacy, cola and cherry tastes to the side. Aftertaste of cherries and cola. If one ever has a chance I would suggest trying it on tap----an absolutely fantastic Belgian ale.
