I bought this as a single at Union Jack's on the Manatawny. I drank it in a goblet. Date notched on the label, but I'm not sure what the date means.
Pours a slightly hazy garnet red, with a one finger head of light tan foam. The head falls to a nice coating, with decent enough lacing. Carbonation appears moderate.
Aroma is sweet dark caramel, fruits like dates and ripe figs, slightly phenolic, and very slight yeast. Smells inviting. The aroma improves as it warms.
Flavor is dark caramel candy, followed by dark, ripe fruits like above. The phenolics are muted, as well as any hop flavor. Hop bitterness is very low. Yeastiness is there, but also low. The main flavor is dark caramel malt, followed by a slight Belgian funk. Aftertaste is sweet and dark.
Mouthfeel is pretty smooth and creamy, with a decent zing from carbonation. Finish is full bodied and sticky.
This is a decent enough beer. Not earth shattering or anything, but a pretty damn good Belgian dark. The alcohol is very well hidden. Most of the flavors are on the subdued side, except for the dark caramel candy taste. Overall, a fine brew.

An absolute favorite ale from Huyghe brewery. Pours a dense dark brown with a big foamed tan head that dies down to a nice layer with excellent lacing. Nose of dark fruits---plum and raisins, light Belgian yeast and Belgian candy malt. Taste is excellent. Plum and raisins sizzle into the flavor profile with this highly carbonated Belgian delicacy, cola and cherry tastes to the side. Aftertaste of cherries and cola. If one ever has a chance I would suggest trying it on tap----an absolutely fantastic Belgian ale.
