Appearance: Clear medium brown color with reddish overtones. The beer has a modest off-white head that fades fairly quickly.

Smell: Bready, fruity notes dominate.

Taste: The fruity notes in the nose are prominent. It finishes with a combination of fruity sweetness, slight phenols, and faint hop bitterness. I pick up a very slight metallic note in the finish also. Alcohol is hidden fairly well.

Mouth-feel: Body is on the lighter Medium side with a fair level of carbonation.

Overall: A good beer I keep coming back to.

Poured from 33 cl bottle into my lost abbey stemware glass

A - Poured dark amber/brown color with big head that slowly dissipated leaving significant lacing around the glass.

S - Sweet malts, caramel, fruits and some nuttiness.

T - Just like smell very sweet and malty upfront followed by fruits, caramel with hints of alcohol content towards the finish.

M - Medium body with high carbonation.

D - Very good and pleasant beer. Makes a great winter ale.

750ml bomber poured into a tulip glass

A - Dark brown with ruby highlights when held up to light. About a finger of dense, tan head.

S - More subdued than expected, but with a nice mixture of dark fruit, yeast and malt. Probably the least impressive aspect of this otherwise excellent beer.

T - Dark fruit, herbs and a slight medicinal taste on the end. Nicely balanced with sweet malt up front giving way to a pleasant bitterness and herbal quality as it crosses the palate. Suggestive of a cellared beer, with an excellent melding of disparate flavors. The alcohol is barely discernable, which is quite impressive for this ABV.

M - This is probably the best aspect of this beer - the mouthfeel is incredible and very distinct. There is a soft fullness and creaminess that lasts throughout the entire glass.

O - A very complex yet approachable Belgian. Not the absolute pinnacle, but definitely high in the ranks!
