Pours a light chestnut brown. Slight haziness, along with some floaties showing a rich body. The head is enormous and impressive. Extremely thick, foamy, looks like a memory pad cushion. Great retention and a thick, sticky lace.
The scent is more wine than beer, even for the style. Lots of ripe dark fruits with a red wine nose.
The taste buds confirm the nose...a bit too much like wine. More than anything, it tastes like a fruit beer. I guess you could say it tastes like boozy fruit cake.
Despite lacking overwhelmingly great taste, there is some complexity. A decent amount of sweet and sour exists from sip to swallow. Alcohol bite and heat is a common thread from beginning to end. While the alcohol is high and present, it's somewhat subtle in how it hits you. A wine drinking would find this easy drinking, but I had to acquire a taste for it. Very tangy and crisp, with plenty of carbonated bite.
Not nearly as good as the two other Delirium beers I've had. Not a bad beer, just a bit disappointing based on what I was hoping for. For what it's worth, it comes in a cool bottle.
