750ml bottle into New Belgium Snifter, Bottled April 2011
Pours a light brown with red tones, a huge tan/orange head on top. Smell is sweet and spicy with yeasty notes, dry as well. Some fruit in the nose, maybe cherry? Taste is reminiscent of dark dried fruits, fig and cherry in particular, some brown sugar sweetness and yeast characteristics, quite boozy, though not harsh. Spices are hard to pick apart as they are fairly subtle with perhaps some orange citrus barely making an appearance. Nice dry finish that almost puckers. Mouthfeel a bit prickly from the spicing, high alcohol and high carbs; surprisingly light in body.
A very nice Christmas beer to slowly sip by the fire with some snacks. My major complaint is the booziness, although at 10% it is quite mild. Dark and fruity, a Belgian through and through.
