A: Brown with a deep red, good head retention and full, well-carbonated body.

S: Strong alcohol presence, tart, sweet, and strong.

T: Bitter berry tart cut with hop-ale savor creates a strong and vital first impression, then the layers of traditional Belgian complexity gradually introduce themselves. Copperish, floral, fruity, sour, and warm. More assertive than other Delirium beers, but perfect for the season.

M: Excellent. The perfect blend of strong, sharp and smooth.

O: I make sure to grab as many as I can every winter. It's a great beer for the season without being too "seasonal" (i.e. fruity/fake-tasting). If you're a fan of the style at all, it's a must-buy. Absolutely delicious, warming, and in ways comforting.

This is a 3-year old bottle, chilled, then warmed a bit for a half hour.

Pours a rich crimson red, with an abundance of chunky sediment. There's a fine head of fine white foam, and only insubstantial lace in my St. Bernardus goblet.

Nose is nice fruity aromas, including berries, wine grapes, strawberries, and a definite earthiness and bread-like character from the yeast. Exquisite!

Taste is heavy on the fruity qualities, with a sweet character (witness the berries mentioned before) and a slightly spiced, warming finish. I get plenty of carbonation here (indeed, the caged & corked bottle popped loudly upon opening). This is a beautiful brew, packed with complexity and well worth a try for anyone into classic Belgian ales.
