Bought this at the corner store for about $11, a 750 ml bottle.
The apperance is dark orange with large bubbles in the head that leave little lacing. A cloudy rich orange and brown.
The smell is fairly strong, with that yeasty kind of smell that you get with Belgian beers. Can smell the sweetness of the beer, the yeast and smells a little like raisins.
The taste is rather sweet and the alcohol hits the tounge after all the other flavors wear away. Lots of rich type of flavours, yeasty sweet malt, kind of a slightly cheesy flavor. I taste somthing that is a little like raisins, citrus and walnuts. A slight tartness too.
I think the alcohol flavour in this is a bit heavy, more than I expect for a beer like this.
The mouthfeel is a bit acidic and not too thick. A good balance between thin enough to enjoy but thick enough to be flavourful.
It is certanly carbonated enough, but I would like to have seen a bit more head and lacing. This has almost no head at all.
It is a heavy beer, and the flavour is quite strong. I think that after one bottle of this I will be buzzed enough and will certainly feel a little full.
All in all a good beer, but not special enough for the price. Good flavour, but I wanted more complexity. I'll stick to Chimay if I want to splurge.
