750ml bottle into New Belgium Snifter, Bottled April 2011

Pours a light brown with red tones, a huge tan/orange head on top. Smell is sweet and spicy with yeasty notes, dry as well. Some fruit in the nose, maybe cherry? Taste is reminiscent of dark dried fruits, fig and cherry in particular, some brown sugar sweetness and yeast characteristics, quite boozy, though not harsh. Spices are hard to pick apart as they are fairly subtle with perhaps some orange citrus barely making an appearance. Nice dry finish that almost puckers. Mouthfeel a bit prickly from the spicing, high alcohol and high carbs; surprisingly light in body.

A very nice Christmas beer to slowly sip by the fire with some snacks. My major complaint is the booziness, although at 10% it is quite mild. Dark and fruity, a Belgian through and through.

Sample: 1 bottle 3/2011

A: Beautiful reddish orange, with a light white foamy head and significant internal carbonation, translucent

S: Heavy dried fruits, figs, dates, decently sweet, some citrus, maybe a little nutty, traces of vanilla, heavily fragrant

T: Delicious, very fruit, akin to the nose, not overly sweet, good balance, some alcohol, but mellow

M: Light in the mouth, easy to drink, strong flavor but not heavy by any means, aftertaste is light and fruity, not too lingering

O: Certainly a treat, fruity, drinkable, great aroma, and nice to behold, I'll have to age another a bit longer and compare

Served in a tulip glass. Vintage bottle from March 2011.

Appearance: Very dark amber with a off white head which rises to roughly 2 fingers length.

Smell: Heavy yeast, I mean this thing is like inhaling a meal f'n incredible.

Taste: Yeast, slight hops and a sweet feeling of dry-sweetness.

Mouth: Medium carbonation, full blown smoothness and full of flavor.

Overall: Buy it, age it, then drink t. This is a pretty damn good beer if you ask me, I am not saying this because of any bias I am saying this because it is that appetizing. Salud!

The sole example still sitting on my local bev centers shelf..I just couldn't leave it there!

Pours a pretty, deep, clear reddish amber while building a whopper of a slightly off white head. Head receded to a half inch cover and deposited sporadic lace thereafter.

A nose of fruit, spice and yeast greeted my olfactories and foretold of the treat forthcoming.

Taste was as expected with sweet fruits up front, an ever so slight hint of heat and a mild hint of yeast at the tail end. Mouthfeel was fairly substantial and carbonation was subdued.

Quite a tasty treat to help celebrate kicking Winter in the nads and saying hello to Spring!!

A: Pours a light brown out of the bottle but is quite dark in the glass. Slightly translucent around the edges with an ample off white head with superb retention
S: Smells slightly fruity with some spice and sweet molasses aroma. a bit of alcohol as well
T: sweet malt, dark cherries, a little spice. Fruity aftertaste as well. Not too bad
M: kind of thin with soft carbonation
O: Drinks very easy and has a solid flavor profile. Nose is a little weak and it could use a bit more complexity but it's a well done beer.

P- Brown/ Copper colour with a fair amount of yeast in the glass.
S- Boozy. Some dried fruits, figs, caramel.
T- Boozy, again. Even after it had been chilled for quite some time. It is not a bad thing, I just wish it would allow the other flavours to jump out. Some presence of caramel, fruits, plums and figs.
M- Good mouthfeel. Not over-carbonated and a medium-bodied oily feel.

Overall: Not bad, but not excellent. The body is cool, does that count for anything?
