A - A lot of stuff floating around in this one, yellowish to bronzish color with a small head.

S - More malty than I was expecting, with a lot of fruit. Pleasant, but would have liked a little more of the yeast to come through on the nose.

T - Carmel, fruit, and a bit sour. More of a grainy backbone than I was anticipating on a triple.

M - Light with some good carbonation.

D - Goes down easy, nothing overpowering in the taste that makes you stop.

2004 Cork Date, Sampled March 2007
Pours with a brilliantly clear, orangish-tinged, full gold color. It is topped by a frothy, pale, off-white colored head that starts out four-fingers thick. The beer is extremely well carbonated with lots of streams of carbonation bubbles rising up through the beer. The carbonation keeps the head aloft for quite some time, and the head leaves a lacing pattern on the sides of my glass. The aroma certainly has aged notes to it; a sort of mix between caramel candies, a touch of sherries, butter rum and lots of toasty, malty biscuit-like notes in the finish.

The taste is dry up front, but quickly picks up a caramel candy sweetness as well as a sherry'd, aged malt character. The beer finishes with some nice spicy notes reminiscent of ginger and white pepper. Touches of vanilla are noticeable around the edges as well as some earthy, green spice notes that remind me of cheap American grown coriander seeds. This beer is quite light on the tongue and definitely is deceptively easy drinking considering its strength. This beer is still holding up pretty well, it is probably better when had fresh, but I am quite pleased by how well this has held up over the years.

Standard, but good trippel. The look is a solid copper / golden color with a hearty sediment and nice carbonation and head retention. Sprinked with spices and yeast, this promises to be a quality Belgian. Smells rich with fruits (peaches and pears), toasted malts, sweet sugars, spices, and tartness. Tastes deliver when the aromas promised. Ripe but rich fruits with dates and pineapples added. The solid malt base gives a rich malted barley flavor that melds well with the sweeter candy sugars. Spicy with nutmeg and cinnamon flavors and sweet alcohols. Tart throughout with a confectionate / sweetheart characters. Alcohols are warming and sweet. Aftertaste reveals a very yeasty / bready flavor with a bit of a plastic note. This is a nice beer, especially for the price. Prefered over most Trippels because of a firm balance and consistent quality from beginning to end.

Poured from 750ml (notched L4-03) light gold with a medium sized head of foam that sharank down to a fine layer quickly. Plenty of lacing....

The smell has strong notes of sweet caramel mixed with some alcohol.

The taste is less sweet than the nose indicated. There *is* some caramel malt there along with fruity tones of plum, apple, and cherry and a good kick of lemony sourness near and through the finish. The alcohol is also noticeable and does have a warming effect but it doesn't dominate so we're ok there.

Bottom line: A good Tripel that's worth having from time to time.

Painted white bottle with frail gold foil over a caged & corked 750 mL. Touting 9.0% ABV. Golden polished coppery glow hue giving way to rising carbonation champagne bubbles to a frothy craggy cratered surface of the moon 2 inch statue that paints the glass with a frothy lace.

Peppery notes of doughy spice wafer.

First swigs: Straight forward tripel flavors of metallic grain, followed by a honeyish delicate dry wood and floral petal character. Middle of slightly syrupy butered pancakes with a crisp dough and a leafy green bite.

Feel is impressive. Lightly bodied, clean finish with a soft hint of peppery bread dough.

Last swigs: Flavorful proper tripel that just leaves a little punch to be desired to be excellent. Certainly good. Reminds me most of Stoudt’s although more buttery in the middle.

Poured: into large snifter a dark yellow amber with huge fluffy thick head.
Smell: came off a little sour not like most tripples. Does not give off a complex smell. Not its finest quality.
Taste: quite carbonated and highly achoholic. Tasted a bit sour (fitting to the smell). More sour then most tripples I have had. Full bodied flavor but not complex. While I am not an expert I feel that it could use some aging to mellow out a little and allow to taste more flavors.
Flavor: a little bit of sour apple, acidic like a very acidic fruit like pomegrannte this hits most at the end, I may be crazy but I got a faint flavor of black licorice
(note this is my first review :)

This pours a amber color with a huge white head. The bubbles in this beer look like club soda, this is very carbonated. The smell has a very "bisquity" aroma. Like walking in a bakery. The taste is a fruity mix. The most pronounced flavor is of apple, but you can make out some sweet malt, dark fruit, and an alcohol warmth thats not overblown. The m/f is medium with a good mixture of flaors. This is a damn good beer , and one where the 9% alcohol is only slightly in the flavor picture. This is a beer not to be missed.

750mL bottle poured into a chalice.

Amber color with a nice white head that leaves a small amount of lacing. Caramel, plum, yeast, bread, pretty sweet smell, no hops perceived. Taste is very sweet as well, tastes of dark fruit, as well as notes of apple and pear. Light carbonation, medium bodied, and pretty light on the tongue. Pretty good beer and a pretty reasonable price tag on it.

Pours a pillowy, white, three-fingered head, fades very slowly ( should be poured slowly) and leaves a good lace. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Color is cloudy amber. Nose is sweet malt. Starts and finishes sweet - a combination of raisins and citrus; the high ABV is not noticeable. Corked 750ml bottle, bottled March 2004.

Found a single of this one at a little, obscure liquor store here in town ... bottle a bit dusty and opaque white. No date to be found ... poured into a Moinette chalice from the 11.2 oz bottle.

A - Golden orange with discernable yeasties in the glass. Thin, white head with lacing sporadic so far ...

S - Sweet and caramely nose. No hop aroma, and is within my expectations for a Belgian tripel. Smells promising.

T - Hmmm ...mollasses and citrus flavor play off well. Pretty high carbonation in this ale. A bit drier finish than expected. Noticable alcohol warmth and flavor, but not overblown. I almost bought the Dubbel, and this one reminds me more of a dubbel in some ways. Very good flavor though.

M - Warm and thick with a bit of a bite. Coats the mouth and the hops linger in the back of the mouth. Pretty complex, really.

D - Complex and attractive ... this Tripel is a good one. A lot going on here and probably not the one you'd want to use for a benchmark for the style. I'll buy the Dubbel and try it next ... this one, I'd definitely have again. Good beer ... doesn't receivee the press that most other belgians get, but its in the class.

Appearance is a light golden color, with a slight orange hue, cloudy with a moderate head of foam. Smells fruity like sour green apples with a perfumy tartness. A definite sweet alcohol aroma is present. Taste is tarty, dry and alcoholic. It is citrusy and the flavors dissemintate into your nose. I detect some bitterness. Finish is not as sweet as expected. It feels light and thin, and very highly carbonated. Not bad at all.

Pours a solid orange color with a finger of head head that is maintained with a very active carbonation. Incredible cascade of bubbles up the side of the glass. The nose is big citrusy lemon and orange. No alcohol. Flavor is initially tart lemon, but quickly moves to a light raisiney in the middle and finish. Slightly drying on the finish. Feel is moderate with a very active carbonation. Overall, this is a nice brew. Everything balances well and it really disappears from the glass quickly.

*Corked and caged

Appearance: Poured into a Westmalle chalice. Hmmm... Golden, but a bit brown as well. Very carbonated, fizzy, pure white head, fair retention, decent lace. Meh.

Smell: Sweet and quite dense. Caramel, cola, butterscotch -- really more like a dubbel. A bit odd, frankly.

Taste/Mouthfeel:A bit thick, but very assertively carbonated. This is oddly un-tripel. Sweet -- but simply sweet, like honey -- a bit buttery, and then finishes hoppy and a bit boozy. I don't know quite what to make of this.

Drinkability: I think there's too much crammed into this beer and it got away from them; it's just too big.

Or not. I think this is going to be a temporary review because I'm baffled by this beer. Maybe I wasn't in the mood for it, maybe it was a bad sample (although a year-old 9% beer corked in an opaque bottle...), or maybe it just isn't that good. Still, I think it deserves another shot.

Creamy orange appearance, head faded quickly to slight white layer in my goblet.
Smell was a bit tricky, not sure but I think I picked up on Plum, Cherry, Orange, Grapefruit, raisin, and begium yeast. It smell really good, and actually had I not seen this beer i'd have guessed it a bit darker based on the aroma.

Damnint. Pretty disappointed in the taste. It smelled so good, but flavor was sour and funky. Cork said 2004 on it, maybe this wasn't stored correctly, but the flavor is not too good at all. Not one i'll try again soon at any price, but this one was $8.50. I feel like I should get a refund on this one. Blehhh

ehhh decent....for the style I thought it could have stood up more...you know claimed its territory....it basically stood its ground and did a few tricks.

smelled like a yeasty/fruity typical tripel ten sizzled and became course in the throat. I would reccomend this beer with some sharp cheese and a BJ.
