Beer is an attractive gauzy golden color. Not much head, but some nice lacing. Aroma is some light bread, biscuits, and yeast, along with some faint lemon/orange hops. Taste is straightforward. Light but solid malt up front, with a crisp, dry finish with some orangey/hoppy notes. Mouthfeel is fine. Overall, a good, but not great APA. Crisp and refreshing and very drinkable, but nothing too out of the ordinary.

500ml Bottle from Marche Omni QC for 5$ - listed as 5.6% - brewed in August

Appearance - Clear copper colour with an average size fizzy beige coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation and there is some faint lacing. The head lasted for around 4-5 minutes.

Smell - Malts, caramel, grassy hops

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste hops, malts, grass, and caramel/toffee. There is also some candied grapefruit and a sugary sweetness. There is something slightly astringent and a pretty hoppy aftertaste.

Overall - Probably shouldn't be listed as an American Pale ale.. It's more of an English version if anything. I definitely expected more from this one based on previous reviews, it tastes a little bit like a home brew ESB.

Poured in a riedel magnum red wine glass

Centennial hop, 40 IBU

A: Nice orange/amber hue, with a white foam head, slowly fading.

S: Hoppy, slightly metallic, orange rinds, grains.

T: Nice fruity attack, with some controlled bitterness. Pretty easy to drink, but at the same time showing decent character.

O: I like this beer, it's a thirst quencher, pretty light pale ale. I find it filling the same role as a st-ambroise pale ale, good introduction to these hoppy beers, without being too radical. This one is more intense than St-Ambroise...

Nice to see new craft breweries coming up in more remote regions of Quebec. When I go to these places I know I can get a good beer... and this is a good beer.

I pour this and think immediately pale ale. Decent whiteish foam, amber liquid and a steady but fine bead emerges from the glass. I immediately jump to the aromas, there isn't much more to say about the looks.

Quite bready up front with some malts and a generous splash of hops. Fairly clean fruitwise but some orchard fruit rises near the end. The dominant thread is a balance of malt and hops which is very satisfying.

Bracing mouthfeel from a combination of the carbonation and the structured malt profile. Hops do assert themselves mid to end and leave the drinker with spicy and citrucy bitter end. Very quenching and clean in the finish as there really is no fruitiness that I can detect.

This is a pale ale in every sense of the word, and easily one of my standard bearers for the style. Summers are cooled drinking this and winters are shortened as I think of the warm times coming when the hops in my back yard grow and I quaff this while the sun goes down.

Bottle from Marche Omni. From notes.

A - Poured copper. Bright. Frothy eggshell head. Minimal lace, film of retention.

S - Earthy, dark citrus, bread, toasty notes, soapy and dusty.

T - Soapy, toast, citrus, orange, and some interesting tropical fruits.

M - Nice medium bitterness with good carbonation and a medium to full body.

O/D - Nice. Different and not typical of an everyday PA. Very drinkable. I enjoyed it.

A: Clear amber colour with two fingers of creamy white head. Good retention which slowly recedes to an attractive creamy blanket, and good retention down the glass.

S: Pine, floral notes, hints of citrus, some bread, and a slight nut aroma. Pleasingly fragrant with quite an overall earthy aroma that's given off from this.

T: Pine and herbal (and floral) notes abound upfront with a very light and faint malt presence. Refreshing flashes of citrus zest and hints of nut follow. Loads of bitterness with a solidly dry and tart herbal (almost metallic zinc) taste. Overall a decent taste but a bit too herbal and metallic in my opinion.

M: Light body with a moderate-high carbonation. A slightly thicker, more oily body would add quite a bit to this.

O: A decent American Pale Ale but not something I would likely revisit. I really like this brewery but not a huge fan of this offering due to the strong herbal and metallic qualities.

500ml bottle poured into tulip 15/6/11

A clear dark copper with a large 3 finger cream colored long lasting head that leaves plenty of thick spider web looking lace

S lots of metallic toffee with a little citric hops

T a little more fruity in the mouth with some herbal hops opposed to the citric

M a little bit of a bite but it didn't take any of my flesh on its way down, full for the color and more then enough carbonation to give it life

O Not bad for a beer I didn't know existed, no flaws and plenty of solid well made beer to be found here

I'm loving the burning ship on the bottle not personally being on the ship ablaze. I'd say this is more of a ESB to me but perhaps I'm becoming a beer snob in my young age. Thanks cjmcdon for sending a great random bottle my way

Corte-Real is an impressive looking beer, with a light amber colour and a very creamy off-white head. It even sounded creamy while pouring.

The smell abounds with citrus, probably a result of the Centennial hops. No hint of the yeast, but a mild bready malt scent rounds it out.

Although the bottle says 40 IBU, I'm inclined to think its more than that. This beer is quite bitter, spalshed with citrus and floral notes from the hops. Its very well balanced with the malts. Pretty much nothing missing here.

The mouthfeel is slightly oily, but very creamy and full-bodied. Its a pleasure to swish around your mouth in search of new flavours. Overall, this is a really good beer. Its not easy to find though, so when you do see one grab hold tight.

App: Peachy in color with golden hues striking it around, a good head, with a good retention and lace.

Smell was reminding me more of an EPA than an APA, it was well balanced in between malt, caramel presence and hops but there was a very present smell of froment in there tickling and teasing my nose.

Taste was well balanced, floral, caramelish, rounded in mouth, reminded me more of an english pale ale than the american version because too balanced and shy.

Bottled on December 09/2010. Purchased from Fromagerie Atwater. Poured into a pint glass.

Golden colour. Thick fluffy head that lasts about 3 minutes. Grassy smell.

Really nice hoppiness--pops in your mouth with the carbonation. A nice bitter aftertaste and finishes VERY dry.

I noticed from some previous reviews there was a concern about "sudsiness"--my untrained tastebuds don't notice it so perhaps with this new batch they adressed those issues.

I could see pairing it with some spicy Thai or Tandoori.

I really like this brewery, and I'll be having this one again.

My first growler.

A- Some sort of light mahogany. A little cloudy with some floaties, looks like hops. Nice beige sticky head.

S- Light grapefruit hops. Sweet malt.

T- Soapy citrus hops. Sweet candy malt. Ends a bit salty. Flavorful but nothing too crazy. Enjoyable but there's still a little annoying taste. Something reminding me of children's Tylenol. A bit of Lager after-taste also.

M- Full with medium to carbonation.

D- Good. This first growler was a piece a cake.

Would buy another one for a party especially if guests weren't craft drinkers.

Growler, APA, pours rich cooper, heavy head, lots of lace, no haze. Aroma of dank Simcoe, some malt, some earthy hops. Flavor of unrefined base malt, alot of hop caracter and a little dirty/earthy bitter finish.

Looks awesome, smells ok taste a little soapy... from the hops I presume. Fairly ok APA, reminded me of a west coast APA like Lagunitas, but with more rough edges to sort out.

Tasted on February 8th, 2009.

Appearance: Dark amber color. Could be copper color... The head stays and stick to the glass. A beauty in the glass.
Smell: Nice smell of hops with some woody smell... interesting. Could this be the centennial hops smell. Would have to check.
Taste: Intense taste of hops. The beer is very bitter with a earthy (mineral) taste. Excellent.
Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel of this beer is thin and very refreshing.

Gotta love the bitterness. Excellent beer and easy to drink.
