Bottle: Poured a hazy deep amber color ale with a large light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of deep caramelized sugar and light toffee notes with light dried fruit ester. Taste is also dominated by deep caramelized malt notes with some toffee notes with light dried fruits notes. Sweetness level is well balanced. Body is full with limited filtration and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. I usually like my scotch ale with some peat notes but still very enjoyable with great drinkability.

Special barrel aged edition at 9% ABV: Almost opaque dark brown color with a copper hue. Creamy light brown 2 finger head, lasting around 5-10 minutes, with a good amount of lacing. Flavors of scotch, molasses, dark berries, cherries, plums, dark grains, oak, herbal spices. Highly sugary yet with good sharpness. Slick light body with moderate carbonation. Strong finish, well intensified, lingering dark fruits with a superb earthy barrel aged feel of wood. Feels like a dark Belgian ale with a cheese smell. The body is a little thin but still pleasant. Alcoholic, warming, yet still fresh. Quite tender, well balanced flavors, and delicious. Overall excellent quality craft, one of my favorite from this brewery. Highly recommended.
