We’ve finalized a new Black Ale for Half Acre.

We can all sit on sun drenched patios and freely spill speed beer down our throats till paid transportation takes us home. You want to squirrel away a couple x-tra pales and head to yoga? No problem, Namaste.

But, there are times when fleshy black beer is the only thing that offers the necessary weight. Visiting your uncle’s machine shop to thread some pipe before hitting a dirt track sprint car race….? You might want to digest some Lead Feather Black Ale.

The might of big malts and rival hop use give Lead Feather capital dark properties. 6% ABV gives you time, but not at the expense of content.

Taste: Complex, smooth, some dark toasted chocolate malts, hint of sweet, clean finish. Same with the nose. Black/brown hue, mostly opaque, tan head with ringed lattice. Medium body. Very drinkable and would pair well with BBQ. Had many years ago.

This was poured into a becher pint glass.
The appearance was a nice looking dark brown close to black in color with a yellowed tan woody color-ed head that slid off fairly quick. Lace looked really nice, clingy and concave.
The aroma shaped the hops sweetly around the roasted malts. Some bitterness from the hops did come in slightly and a touch of citrusy and piney character seemed to have been the main basis of those hops.
The flavor was moderately sweet with a sturdy bitter piney bite that actually isn't so much of a bite. To me, I have to admit, I think this is an old can but I can't quite right tell for sure. The reason why I mention that here is because the bite is smooth, like it has been aged - perhaps. Aftertaste was roasty with a semi-muted sweet to bitter piney hoppiness.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt a bit lower than expected, but I wasn't too bothered by that. ABV seemed to have been on par.
Overall as a black IPA/CDA, I'd say this is well worthy of having again even if my can I assumed is aged.

One of my favorite beers. Splits the difference evenly between a porter or stout and a hearty pale or India pale ale. Exceptionally well done by Half Acre.

Pours black-brown with slight head and lacing into half-pint glass. Smells of malt, currants, and smoke. tastes of dark malts, currants, smoke, and burnt sugar notes. Feels a touch dry. Not exceptional for the style but not bad. Heavy on the smoke/ roasted malt notes. Not sessionable.

Best thing about Lead Feather is its color. Easy to drink - but doesn't smell or taste extraordinary. It's chocolatey, but not to a fault. Love the can.

Nitro in an Imperial pint glass.

Dark chocolate color, blackish brown. Very tall chocolate milk-colored head that leaves behind loaded foam lacing.

The smell is varied; some coffee, vanilla, chocolate, leather and wooded outdoors.

Chocolate and coffee flavors. Malted milk.

Chewy and leathery, surprisingly light body. Drinkable, a touch of hops.

Nothing stands out but overall, its quite good.
