We've brewed a variant of Double Daisy Cutter we're calling Galactic Double Daisy Cutter. This version highlights Galaxy hops, a bruiser grown in Australia specifically to make palates numb. This beer insisted on being a beast. Uber-hazy and jam packed with the sticky, Galaxy hops, this beer isn't for the faint of heart.

As if pulled from the core of a distant, inhospitable planet, The Galactic Double Daisy is juicy and dank, rough and tumble and beautifully ugly. Strap on your boots and pull down some of the ooze, Galactic Double Daisy is here.

Very typical huge midwest, juicy astringent IPA. Very big, sharp hop bite and a decent amount of biscuity malt. The galaxy hops do leap out of the glass with a good swirl, but they are not as pungent or dank as they could be considering some of the other hop achievements Half Acre has put out (namely Navaja and Space). Very juicy clear and pulpy fruit juices - papaya, mango, orange, strawberry. The dry and almost plastic Australian hop not is there as well.

Very nice beer, but half acre does much better (513 characters)

Bomber to a snifter

Pours a bit cloudy of a gold with a finger of foam. Retention isn't too bad, lacing is good also. Low carbonation, not bad looking

Smell is pretty balanced between the malts and hops. Grapefruit and citrus with a sweet bready caramel malt.

Taste follows, citrus and grapefruit backed by a strong caramel malt

Feel is a medium body, alcohol is hidden pretty well

Overall disappointed, I think maybe this bottle is past it's prime? (455 characters)

Serving: 22 oz. bomber poured into a Cigar City snifter. No bottled on date, but it's no more than a few weeks old since the release.

A: Pours a nice amber-orange color. Pretty clear. Foamy 1/2-finger white head that sticks around.

S: Very floral and earthy. Lots of fresh flowers, daisies, pine cone. Just a splash of lemon-lime or papaya for a fruity-sweet note.

T: Very earthy and dry. Grass, pine, spearmint, orange, hibiscus.

M: Nice and full. Great carbonation. Aggressively hopped, but not overly bitter. Very, very dry on the finish.

O: Being somewhat familiar with the galaxy hop, I think overall this is a nice showcase for it. Very floral and earthy, which is a nice change-up from the typical tropical, citrus and fruity hops of the Citra and Centennial variety. I do think I prefer Double Daisy Cutter to this one as this tends to be a bit too dry for me and DDC is more balanced. Either way, both are better than regular Daisy Cutter as they take what is already a great beer to a whole other level.

Recommendation: Definitely seek this beer out if you're in town for the release. But stay away from the long lines of the taproom release, and instead check out the bottle shops over the next couple of days. (1,230 characters)

Huge. golden, slightly brown. May be most powerfully aromatic beer I've had. Loads of tropical fruit -pineapple, orange, lemon. Similar taste with a bit of that Daisy Cutter grassiness in the finish. Mouthfeel is crazy - both sticky and tangy. Went to Half Acre on release day to get this. Saw the line and drove away. A week later I found it in my local bottle shop. It was still cool from being just off the truck. Now I almost wish I'd gotten in that line so I could have more. (480 characters)

Made it to Half Acre for the release. Haven’t had it from the bottle yet, but got some on tap and also on cask with more Galaxy hops and Citra Hops. The cask was amazing BTW, so if you see it, try it. As for the beer itself, it poured a slightly hazy burnt orange body. Nice white frothy head. Aroma of tropical fruits, hops, almost no sweetness. Taste is very similar. Lots of fruit, good amount of bitterness, and not much sweetness, just the way I like it. (461 characters)

Absolutely fantastic beer. The Galactic hop from Australia contributes to this complex yet very refreshing double. Bubblegum-like aroma, with tropical fruit and wheat notes, all tied together by the comforting and familiar hoppiness. Cool, slightly dry aftertaste. Just a good good beer, and possibly the best for the summers. (330 characters)

Poured in a 12oz sniffter

L: hazy straw-like color. Nice bright white head, very sticky and slow to dissapate.

S: melon, touch of booze, tropical.

T: Classic tropical hop notes hit right away, followed by a bit of boozy bitterness . Finishes with a very pleasant freshly cut grass note.

F: highly drinkable. Nice bubbly carb, big mouthfeel.

O: half acre makes some fantastic dipa's and this is no exception. Great beer. Don't know if I want to go through that line again though. (491 characters)

This has to be one of the best smelling beers I have ever experienced. Grapefruit and grass make for a really bright smelling beer.

Grapefruit is the dominate flavor, really refreshing enjoyable drink. Definitely a big step up from regular dc. (244 characters)

Poured from bomber into a Pipeworks snifter.

A: Pours a deep amber with a finger of foam with minimal retention, leaving behind heavy lace at the crown of the glass.

S: Orange zest, grapefruit rind, pineapple, and a sweat, bready maltiness.

T: Juicy clementine immediately, with other citrus flavors following in tow. That signature Half Acre bready malt flavor punches through right as the citrus notes fade, and a slight alcoholic taste makes itself known in the finish.

M: Crisp and dry with a medium body.

O: I much prefer this from a bottle than on tap, though, regardless, this is a very good beer, and probably my favorite DIPA coming out of Chicago. Leaps and bounds better than anything I've had from Pipeworks, Citra Ninja included. (747 characters)

Bomber to teku

A: darker orange with some amber or ruby notes

S: wonderful mix of melon, bubblegum, tangerines, and pear; also a general aroma that's consistent with tropical fruit aromas

T: a big letdown after the fantastic nose: a light, juicy fruitiness (like fruit punch gatorade, but better) followed by classic daisy cutter flavors (malty and lightly hoppy)

M: wet and juicy, so pretty pleasant

O: a good beer that smells much better than it tastes. the nose is just fantastic (487 characters)

Pours amber in color with some hues of burnt orange and a moderate hazyness. Head is one and a quarter fingers off white fluffy and retains nicely.

Smell is incredibly juicy.bright fruity hop aromas with notes of tangerines, nectarines, mangos and some faint pinapple hop aromas. Nice floral hop presence typical to daisy cutter near the mid section however the sweet citrusy tangerine and nectarine aromas dominate.

Taste is defiantly hop forward. There is a big herbal hoppy oil vegetal flavor and moderate bitterness forward before the sweeter citrus hop flavors come out. Citrus hops also have notes of tangerines and nextarines. Caramel malt is amped up slightly from daisy cutter giving it a slightly sweeter flavor and a bigger husky grain flavor.

Mouthfeel has tons of hoppy oils and resin along with a big tropical and floral bitterness. Sticky hop oils are balanced with moderate amount of carbonation and a good malty sweetness. (943 characters)

Thanks to rudzud for sharing.

Pours a decent creamy fluffy 1/2 finger head, fades semi slowly, nice lacing, murky tangerine color.

Nose is whoa, tons of galaxy hops, citrus galore, dank resin, some tangerine, pith, passion fruit resin, little rind, hint of sweet malts, ripe bitter fruit.

Taste brings lots of tropical fruit juice, sweet candy malts mixed with it, fluffy malts, passion fruit, resin and dank hops, pith, grapefruit peel, tangerine juice, etc. Nice fluffy malt and hint sweetness balance with decent bitterness. Quite nice, finish is drier and sticky but sweet, hint of booze warmth, more chewy bitterness, more citrus fruit too, pretty tasty though.

Mouth is med bod, hint of booze, nice carb.

Overall good but mixed, started really nice but the more I had it it got a little more meh. Too bitter rindy and sweet, bit still quite nice. (860 characters)

Pours a cloudy, sunshine orange, with medium carbonation and overall a very pretty brew.

Smell is wonderful, definitely getting a cotton candy-esque sweetness that is countered with a tangy hop bitterness.

Taste doesn't quite meet my expectations, but that's alright still a tremendous brew. Tastes like freshly baked biscuits, slight citrus, I'm always intrigued by the galactic hop, very tasty but can't quite put my finger on the taste.

Mouthfeel is marvelous, a somewhat bizarre bitter after taste, but nothing I can't get over.

Overall very glad I picked up 3 of these when I had the chance as I haven't seen them anywhere since aside from tap. (653 characters)

Appearance - Pours a hazy, sunset orange with a half finger's worth of white head. Fair retention, resulting in a broken layer of surface suds. Fair lacing, mostly spotty, with good stick.

Smell - Fresh orange zest, pineapple, light floral notes and a light breadiness.

Taste - Follows the nose. An enormous amount of juicy orange flavor. Moderate pineapple and light grapefruit. Vaguely touches on mint. Malts come through mid-taste and near the finish with bready qualities and a faint toastiness to produce a balanced finish. Light citrus pith in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium to full in body with fair carbonation. Smooth and somewhat silky before a semi-dry finish.

Overall - Yeah, this beer is delicious. Can't help but think Jai alai when drinking it; they're very similar, except this thing packs a punch at 8%. Well worth trading for. If you can get it, get it! (879 characters)

Bright orange/amber on the pour, a bit hazy. Nice head that sits on top. Aroma had a little sweet malt mixed in with some juicy tropical fruit. Mango, pinapple, a little citrus. The flavor starts out with a big citrus burst, along with pineapple. A slight bitterness at the end even outs the sweetness of the tropical fruit. The malt stays in the background the whole time, never really getting in the way of the hops. This definitely does a great job of balancing out the sweetness. Creamy, medium mouthfeel. Carbonation is spot on as well, a nice bitterness on the aftertaste. Very nice ipa here, and i'd prefer this to regular double daisy, from what I can remember. (669 characters)

A: Copper/orange color with nice fluffy white head that lingers for a bit. Slight haze.

S: Very fruity upfront with some pine. Candied tangerine, pineapple, mango, maybe a little bubblegum. Really nice aroma.

T: Again fruity upfront with some of that expected breadiness from Half Acre. Get notes of mango pineapple, and sweet tangerine. Slight alcoholic taste.

M: Crisp, dry, and not sweet. Just the way I like it. Medium body.

O: I love this beer, really like it more than the regular Double Daisy. (506 characters)

Big thanks to Homebrew311 for hooking this one up. Bomber poured into Spiegelau glass.

A: Light golden with a slight copper tone, and 2 fingers of white head. Leaves a good amount of lacing through the glass.
S: Straight up fruits with a little pine. Loads of citrus, pineapple, mango, lemon.
T: Similar to taste. So much citrus fruits up front, very sweet. I get a little bit of spices in the background as well.
M: Carbed well, quite dry. Very drinkable.
O: I'm a huge fan of the regular daisy cutter, this is a great take on the base with a hefty addition of ABV and over-the-top hops. I love the burst of aroma and flavors coming through. Reminds me a lot of the Anicca collab. Awesome job HA! (703 characters)

T: Great brew, strong as heck. Would I wait in line for hours again to get it…probably not.
M: Strong brew due to high ABV, overt hoppy flavors as well.
D: Its strong, definitely not a session brew, but a good heady hopper.

Pours a hazed glowing orange with not much fizz.

Aroma explodes with citrus and tropical fruit. Guava, lemon, grapefruit plus some pine sap.

Taste is laser focused on the hops. Intense pine resin and grapefruit,

Mouthfeel is medium with low carbonation. Sticky and mouth coating flavor.

One of my favorite hop bombs now has competition from Half Acre's new Navaja...hahaha. Good for me! (391 characters)

650 mL bottle into a snifter.

Appearance - Copper colored. Nice white head. Wisps on the surface.

Smell - Juicy hops. Very citrusy. Malty, too. Hint of pine hop as it warms.

Taste - A little sweet. Great hop profile. Citrusy. Some sweet malts. Very mild bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Surprisingly heavy. Medium carbonation.

Overall - This is really good, but I'd rather have regular Daisy Cutter. (397 characters)

1 month old 22oz bottle into Teku

Perfect IPA. I can't even break it apart into categories, its literally perfect in every way. I'm not here to fluff up their ratings either, I was completely blown away. The taste is reminiscent to Zombie Dust, but somehow manages to be more tropical.... I wasn't even aware that was possible.
I'd trade all the Heady and Pliny in the world to make this a year round release.

The only thing I feel I should mention is that on the bottle this is labled as 6.5%, which makes this a single IPA in my book. Until now my favorite IPA has been Blind Pig from RR, and this dethrones it effortlessly.

My only regret is that of the 6 bottles I bought, I traded all but this one bottle. (716 characters)

Bought a bottle for $7 at the Local 44 bottle shop during Philly beer week. Poured into a snifter. Nice white 2-finger head with clear light copper color. Smells of piney & citrus hops. A bit resiney. Some melon, orange peel, maybe a little white wine qualities in the nose. Hop forward taste with ample bitterness and piney/citrus flavors. Reminds me of Union Jack. Feels light and extremely drinkable. An all around excellent beer. This brewery is quickly going on my breweries to keep an eye out for and one I will def drink from again. (539 characters)

22oz bomber courtesy of Dustin; shared with Evan F today 6/8/2013.

Aroma: Lots of fresh grapefruit up front for sure. A little bit of cat piss and floral notes, a bit of the toffee and caramel, but mostly the grapefruit. Smelled fantastic for sure. (4.75)

Colour: A nice darker amber body, with a solid 1cm white head that stuck around for a bit. Looked well carbonated, a bit of lacing but not much. Very nice looking, just above average really. (4)

Flavour: Its odd that this one doesn't follow the nose so much. A good bit of floral hoppiness but I didn't get a whole lot of grapefruit like in the smell. Easy to drink, mellow and rather tasty. But after that nose, I couldn't help but feel a little bit let down. First world problems. (4)

Mouthfeel: Quite a bit resinous, medium bodied beer that's well carbonated. Aftertaste is mostly floral, earthy bitterness combined with some toffee sweetness. Very interesting and definitely hides the 8% ABV quite well. Easy to drink and a rather refreshing beer that doesn't leave much of a dry finish. (4.25)

Overall: Tasty, not sure I'd line up at Half-Acre for this one, but its definitely a great beer. Great nose, great mouthfeel, but the flavour is a little bit incongruent, but not necessarily in a bad way. (4.25) (1,271 characters)

Big thanks to wyatt13 for this bottle! Split with a friend. Poured into a tulip.

Pours a cloudy dark amber/orange with a rocky white head on top. Citrus notes in the aroma. Tropical mango, pineapple, tangerine. This one is dank for sure. I dig it.

Good feel. No complaints on the carbonation. Big bittering hops right at the onset, Grapefruit, mango, bitter finish. Some mild sweetness noted, but this one leans more to the bitter side of the spectrum.

Great beer. I think I prefer the regular Double Daisy as it's a bit more sweet, but this one would never be turned down. (579 characters)

Pours an attractive orange with slight haze. Recedes to leave some lacing, head is not particularly dense.

Smells of candied grass. pineapple. apricots.

Tastes slightly dank with lots of tropical notes. Some grass notes and quite a bit of floral character. Lots of hop flavors without much observable bitterness as it is well integrated. Finishes with a huge, sticky euphoric hop note.

Medium bodied with fairly light carbonation.

Very enjoyable beer here. (460 characters)
