This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

We invited Davin Bartosch over to our brewery to twist out an International Lager called King Puff. Sure to stun when it’s paired with edgy and unexpected blends of popped corn.

Poured from a 64oz growler into a 20oz imperial pint.

A: Pours a bright & brassy gold with 2 fingers of bright white foam on top. Retention is decent and a few ropes/drapes decorate the glass. Hazy clarity and relaxed carbonation complete the picture.

S: Suprisingly floral and herbal notes meld nicely with elements of fresh bread and white corn. Alcohol shows off a little as it comes up to temp.

T: Sweet, toasty corn and bread with the aforementioned floral/herbal qualities. Picked up a touch of white grape towards the end of each pour. As above, alcohol becomes more apparant as it warms.

M: Full and slick with a fair amount of alcohol prickle. Finishes with some corn-y sweetness.

O: Very nice, but as the growler wore on, the alcohol presence became a tad too obvious. Quite likeable, but would've loved if this weighed in closer to the 5%-6% range.

Growler --> consumed via pint glass

A - Nice fluffy white head with some retention. Hazy golden color - surprisingly bright in color

S - Placebo corn smell. I refuse to believe I smelled it, but there seemed to be a hint there. Fresh grains with an earthy sweetness.

T - Surprisingly sweet, bright herbal notes with strong acidity. Alcohol shows up rapidly as temperature warms. Sweet Maltiness is constant.

M - Smooth finish early, acidity comes in late.

O - Not ideal for a growler - longer stay in brings out the acidity and alcohol. Great for a pint straight from the tap. Impressive visually, has a nice bite and good carbonation.

Growler from Half Acre. Served in a Hill Farmstead tulip.

A - White foam settles to a solid cap and splotchy lace - good retention for the style. Hazy peach body.

S - Toasted grains, a bit of starchy popcorn, slight lemony grassy hop notes.

T - There's a little more malt sweetness here, some nebulous fruitiness, yeasty bread and starchy grains, and well-hidden alcohol.

M - Chewy body, pleasant carbonation, dry finish, and fairly low alcohol warmth for an 8% beer. Pretty smooth stuff

D - This was pretty good, although the booze does creep up on you. I was initially skeptical about this beer, first after the description, and then after the extended lagering time, but this turned out quite well. For a malt liquor...err, 'International Lager' this is among the best in style. I had a few pour with Jason on Friday, and then polished off the growler with friends the next day.
