If you’re anything like me, there were certain days you’d look forward to every month when the school hot-lunch calendar was released. Days that stood head and shoulders above the rest. The days when your absolute favorite cafeteria item was being served. Whether your food of choice be chicken fingers, tacos, pizza, french toast sticks, cheeseburgers, or country fried steak, those days were the best of all the days. The days when you could feel the electricity in the air as the seconds passed before the lunch bell would ring. With those memories in mind, we hope to elicit the same feeling of excitement with our newest brew: Taco Day. Taco Day is a 6.7% strong pale ale of the single hop varietal. We used an experimental hop from the Pacific Northwest. This beer has a subtle, floral taste with notes of berries in the aroma.

Poured from a 32oz Howler into two pint glasses. Thanks to HeatherAnn for the assist!

A: Pours a lightly tarnished copper color. Sticky, bright white head reaches about 1 1/2 fingers before slowly melting down to a thick skim and ring.

S: Light pine and earthy herbal hops mix it up with some bread dough and toasty malt. Interesting in a slightly rough sort of way.

T: See above. Bits of mango and perhaps a little bitter orange peel?

M: Started slick and then took on a slightly cleansing/astringent feel that left our mouths feeling suprisingly clean.

O: We really liked the earthiness of the hop flavors and the grainy maltiness. (638 characters)

Part of the Sprawler Series of one-off pale ales. This one features 'super apollo', which was new to me. The guys there filled me in that it is a new experimental hop variety that will hopefully replace the extinct-ing apollo hop. I hope this is all true because it's got a wild flavor.

If blueberry kush could be reduced to a beer this would be it. Huge resin, this vibrant and curious blueberry that is unique to this beer, intense concentrated pine. The image I have of the hop is that of dank crystallized marijuana flowers. Very bitter and sharp on the palate, dominated by resin and the blueberry.

This is a wild beer, really fantastic. Half Acre's own Blueberry Kush Pale Ale. (692 characters)

Brassy bright orange, high clarity in the glass, big head of creamy white foam builds to a head, and leaves a bunch of drippy lacing behind. Second pour yields a massive head with irregular peaks and plenty of sticky lacing.

Fruity in a mild earthy and citrus vein, very mild floral aroma with a vague pale malty hint there also.

Taste is juicy with fruit and dry grassy hops, interesting single hop variety on showcase. First impression was a mild mango and citrus, peanut buttery malt and a moderately bitter vegetal hop presence. Fruity and bitter marmalade. Dry lingering hop bitterness in the finish, trace citrus, clean and light feel. Interesting use of a one-time experimental hop that's a little different than the usual parade of Half Acre's pale ales, a first recipe from a new brewer there. (805 characters)

32oz growler from Half Acre. Poured in a Cigar City snifter.

A - Pours a deep golden orange color with great clarity and a thin beige colored head cap that disappears quickly. Not much lacing on the glass.

S - Initial whiff is hop bursted grassiness. The finish is dominated with floral earthy tones and wheaty bread. There is a doughy smell that gives underlying smells almost resembling peanut butter.

T - Not much hoppiness, but the malt and earthy tones balance perfectly, leaving very little bitterness. A little citrus, grassy, floral, bready

M - Light-Medium body. Really smooth and creamy. Not heavy on the carbonation, but it kinda works here.

O - Goes down really easy. Drinkable. Very easily drinkable. This one is very sessionable. It's definitely unique. (773 characters)

Bottle of beer. I’m kind of torn by this one. My first impression was the smell, which I really didn’t care for. Strong dank smell. Kind of skunky, maybe comparable to ditch weed. However, I did enjoy the taste. Nice bitter dry flavor. I’m going to say this beer was OK. (276 characters)
