We’re dipping our toes into the waters of Belgium with Bones & All. Our first foray into the style in quite awhile, we are quite excited to offer you this 5.4% ABV Belgian Brown Ale. Brewer Michael Carroll, our expert on all things Belgian style, gave the beer a glowing endorsement, calling it “pretty darn good”. Brewer Matt Young echoes this sentiment, calling Bones & All “well-balanced” and “very good”. So there you go. Two positive reviews from two dudes who know their beers.

Served in a snifter.
"Wouldn't it be chilly with no skin on?" Yup. Anyway, this stuff pours a dark-ish sienna topped by a half-finger of glowing lightly off-cream foam. The nose comprises dried maple syrup, light brown sugar, mild clove, and some light greens in the back. The taste brings in more of the same, with a duller blend of spices and some light cocoa far in the distance. The body is a light-leaning medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda drying finish. Overall, a decent little Belgian brown, but nothing remotely close to special, nor anything memorable enough to wanna grab another.

M: Medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. low bitterness.
O: A decent beer. Drinkable, though not likely something I'd get again.

Poured into Half Acre snifter. Appears a deep chestnut with some clarity, minimal head, and no lacing. The nose features some belgian bubblegummy character with bready yeast and some clove spice. Taste is a little on the thin side with light bubble gum character, mild toast and brown malt. Not a whole lot going on here, easy drinking. Mouthfeel is light and moderately carbonated. Overall, would pass this one up in the future, just not my thing.

Poured from a 64oz growler into multiple pint glasses. Thanks to Joe, Matt, Chris, and Jay for the assist!
A: Pours a deep, cola-brown color with some bubbly, sticky, light khaki foam on top. Retention was decent and a few specks of lace were left behind.
S: Some spicy belgian yeast mixed with toasted nuts and molassas.
T: The aforementioned nut and molassas with clove/cardamom and a dusting of cocoa.
M: Dry and cleansing. Suprisingly light for the style. Nice that this wasn't a one and done.
O: I really liked the fact that this was under 6%. Quite sessionable for the style. You're most welcome Matt!

Thanks Dave for sharing!
Quick review from written notes.
Reddish dark brown, ruby glint in the light. Tan foam fades to a skim, thin collar around the edges. Wisps on the surface.
Some spicy yeast aromas, clove and dry roast.
Roasty with a nice dose of toasted malt flavors, light bitterness, pipe tobacco, light hop earthiness. Smooth and light bodied, easily sessionable. Thanks again Dave!
