Akari Shogun, dry hopped with Motueka hops and topped off with Meyer Lemon + Lime Zest. Extremely drinkable.

From a bottle. I wanted to love this but can't say it was completely successful. Pours with an uneven head, hazy yellow gold, tons of zest floaties. Chunky almost with zest. So definitely authentic and unfiltered. The smell has a lot of lime, obviously, but it skews to the kaffir lime leaf end of things - flora, a faint lavender tone. And, odd as this may sound, there's something distinctly cinnamon going on. Flavor follows. It's not as bright as I would have liked. Perhaps I sat on the bottle too long. There's a bit of a juice pulp feel going on.

This thing is brilliant. Every once in a while you get something totally new and this was one of those. I will have dreams of the brightness of that zest. This is what all the macro "lime" beers should be, but the just dump adjunct artificial flavor. Too bad I was only in town visiting. If Half Acre bottled this and distro'ed to MI, my liver would go on strike

Gorgeous hazy light orange. Looks infinitely quaffable. Smells really strongly of the lemon and lime zest, but the taste is too lemon/lime for me. There are other qualities struggling to get out but the lemon/lime tends to smother the vague hints of malt and hops. Great crisp mouthfeel though.

Draft at the tap room.
Murky orange, good surface coverage, drippy lacing.
Big lime zest in the aroma, unique blend with the hop aroma.
Taste is also lime zest forward, not tart or juicy or anything, just a fine citrusy compliment to an already super sessionable wheat base. Smooth feel, pleasant lime peel bitterness in the aftertaste.

Too much lemon zest and not enough hops

Loved this one-off from my hometown heros. Cloudy orange, smells like limes. Creamy body from the firkin, low carbonation. Smells amazing, like a citrus grove. Bone dry, very lime forward, some lemon, Lee said he used Meyer lemons and limes. This beer takes the dry, citrusy aspects of Akari Shogun and amplifies all the best parts. Great idea. Lee says he’d add less citrus and more hops, but I can’t think of a better brew for a hot day. Again: brilliant idea.

Gravity pour for Firkin Friday. Served in a 13oz snifter.
A - White foam settles to a thin cap, thick collar, and splotches of lace. Murky orange-yellow body.
S - The name Akari Mist is quite appropriate, as this really does a Sierra Mist vibe to it. Lots of sweet lime and Meyer lemon in the aroma, with some similarly zesty citrus from the Motueka hops. Backed up by a sweet pale malt and a mild vanilla backdrop.
T - The taste has a bit more of the wheat and pale malt character from the base beer, with the lemons and limes mixed among the zesty Motueka hops. Lightly tart and sour lime note in the finish.
M - Medium body, lower cask-style carbonation, slightly tannic texture, and a dry finish.
D - Very nice twist on a beer I already liked quite a bit. Really drinkable, and well-conceived, as the fruit integrates extremely well with the hop character. Half Acre is quickly becoming my favorite local cask brewery. Hope they do this again, particularly on a hot summer Friday.
