Imagine a comic book. The kind with superheroes and punching and stuff. Now imagine that most of those superheroes are kind of total jerks. Add in a lot of profanity. No, more profanity than that. Ok, now throw in felonious owls, spectral bovines, gorilla arms, lots of bears, unplanned pregnancy, and 19th century boxer John L. Sullivan. And then a little more profanity. And be sure to include almost nothing about theology or space exploration.

Now imagine—and this is key—being able to drink all that. And then imagine it's called Beer Hates Astronauts, because that's what we're calling it. And we're calling it that because it's the beer version of God Hates Astronauts, which is the actual comic I completely failed to properly evoke above.

This is just the latest step in creator Ryan Browne's attempt to dominate the world by means of one of the most unsummarizable comics in existence. Having recently Kickstarted the deluxe hardcover edition of God Hates Astronauts with massive success, he has joined forces with Half Acre for a groundbreaking venture in distributing comics in hoppy liquid form.

Beer Hates Astronauts will be set free from its containment unit here at the brewery on Friday, August 30. It is a 7.5% ABV India Pale Ale brewed with Vienna malt and Citra hops.

16oz draft pour into a pint glass shows a hazy and cloudy yellow/orange body that maintains a solid cap of tight white bubbles and leaves stepped and webbed lacing.

Aromas of lightly piney hops and citrus lead to flavors that are more fruit forward, but pine resin and biscuit malt are not far behind.

Soft, medium-full feel is well carbonated.

Overall I can't believe it took me this long to review. Time to get back to the taproom (new).

A - Dark orange body, hazy, short white head, scattered small bubble lacing.

S - Pine, lemon citrus, earthiness, and pith and zest.

T - Lovely fruit in the open, tea and tannic bitterness contrasting with malt sweetness, moving away to a pithy, earthy finish.

M - Brisk carbonation and drinkable weight, dry close and a slight resin build over time.

O - A decent brew, highly satisfying, with great can art.

Pours a light golden orange. I get a pleasing, mellow honeydew melon with pineapple and a light cotton candy touch from this.
Soft and rounded hop finish. It’s good.

Unfortunately, the first impression is not a good one. Again, it's that ridiculous and unattractive stark white foam on top of the brew. It's not a true beer head, it's foam. It always recedes unevenly and is often proof there's too much wheat in the wort. Mouthfeel and taste are likely to suffer as well. A great deal of patience required, a pint can has finally been emptied into a clear glass liter mug. The beer is a cloudy orange-amber. There isn't much aroma, not that one would expect a bouquet from what is becoming an obvious wheat beer. It drinks shallowly malty at first. It is moderately sweet, but it's a thin sweetness, not like the one you get from one well brewed mostly with barley malt. The taste is OK, as the hops are mild enough to not overpower the starch backbone. So, this is a balanced IPA, but not a standout. More barley malt couldn't have hurt. The mouthfeel is thin, the glass lacing erratic and sparse. This just slips into the tolerable grouping because of its balance and moderate hoppiness. But much is lacking to make this a truly good IPA.

Great Double IPA that manages to avoid some of the odd flavors typically associated with ipa's from this brewery.

Purchased at Pennridge Beverage, Perkasie. PA. 4pk/16oz cans.

Pours a hazy, opaque golden color. A nice, one finger head on the initial pour. Sticky lacing on the sides of the glass after a few sips.

Wonderful, tropical, fruity aromas.

A delicious IPA. Notes of pineapple, mango and citrus on the initial sip. A nice tangy, bitter aftertaste. The ABV is well hidden, easy drinking.

A medium consistency, moderate carbonation.

A well done IPA. Top-notch. I would gladly seek out in the future. Well done, Half Acre…cheers!
