Notes/Commercial Description:
Imagine a comic book. The kind with superheroes and punching and stuff. Now imagine that most of those superheroes are kind of total jerks. Add in a lot of profanity. No, more profanity than that. Ok, now throw in felonious owls, spectral bovines, gorilla arms, lots of bears, unplanned pregnancy, and 19th century boxer John L. Sullivan. And then a little more profanity. And be sure to include almost nothing about theology or space exploration.

Now imagine—and this is key—being able to drink all that. And then imagine it's called Beer Hates Astronauts, because that's what we're calling it. And we're calling it that because it's the beer version of God Hates Astronauts, which is the actual comic I completely failed to properly evoke above.

This is just the latest step in creator Ryan Browne's attempt to dominate the world by means of one of the most unsummarizable comics in existence. Having recently Kickstarted the deluxe hardcover edition of God Hates Astronauts with massive success, he has joined forces with Half Acre for a groundbreaking venture in distributing comics in hoppy liquid form.

Beer Hates Astronauts will be set free from its containment unit here at the brewery on Friday, August 30. It is a 7% ABV India Pale Ale brewed with Vienna malt and Citra hops.

22 oz bottle a little over 1 week fresh poured into a HA glass.

Pours a golden hazy color with a nice eggshell white head of great thickness, retention, and lacing.

Smells of bright citrus fruit with grapefruit, lemon, orange zest, and mango, with freshly cut pine needles.

Taste is where this shines, the citra hops really coming forward in full force with the aforementioned fruit tastes and hoppy pine and bitterness. Incredibly balanced with a good malt backbone without being overly sweet and solid bitterness (I'd guess 80IBU) without being overwhelming in any regard.

Mouthfeel is medium, definitely light enough to throw down quickly, dry finish, carbonation is medium and appropriate, definitely nice feel here.

Overall just an outstanding IPA. Half Acre makes a fantastic IPA and for once they have bottled one - having had it fresh and bottled it is equally good in both regards. Track this down if you can.

Pours a hazy gold with a thick white head that lingers for a while. Decent lacing. Big citrus on the nose with hints of dank and earthiness. Honey sweetness on the front of the palate then lots of grass, melon, citrus, and a finish that shifts to biscuit. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, an outstanding IPA and a fantastic showcase for the Citra hop.

Incredible balance and smoothness to this 7% IPA. Major hints of grapefruit and melon Including the requisite hop profile yet far from overwhelming or too filling. Love the light orange color and the white head with moderate lacing. An excellent beer.

This was poured from a can that was thrown in as an extra by my favorite trader. Have been hearing excellent things about this beer and wanted to give it a shot, myself. Besides, who wouldn't go for a Citra-hopped IPA? It's a month old, so we'll see how it's held up. Poured from the can into a tulip glass.

A- Fairly aggressive pour resulting in almost two fingers of creamy white head. Color is a blend of orange and grapefruit juice. Murky and faded orange. Hardly any lacing is left on the glass.

S- Yup... This was hopped with Citra. Wonderful showcase of this hop. Citrus bomb. Sweeter fruits (mango) and some sweet malt. Pretty dank, too. Not quite "cat piss", but it has a punch.

T- Not quite as dynamic as the aroma, but this is wonderfully crushable. Citrus juice and citrus rind bitterness, with just enough malt sweetness to balance out the flavor. Think I'm also getting the mango here, as well. Honestly, the finish is much drier than I would have anticipated, given my previous experience with the Citra hop.

M- Medium mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Just a tad watery, though not in a way that is devastating to the flavors. Mouth is coated with Citra hop flavors and it is pleasant.

O- I'm really glad this held up so well. Citra hop was employed wonderfully in this beer and I wish they'd make more of it so I could trade for more. Excellent offering from Half Acre.

Poured from 16 oz can to glasses and shared on the deck on a warm evening. It's a hazy bright orange-yellow with pure white head that slowly fades. The nose is pure bliss - big citra tropical fruits - mango, passion fruit, pineapple, followed by a hint of sweet pale malt. Taste is fantastic - some dankness, lots of fruit, a little bit of pine, and a nicely sweet malt backbone. Mouthfeel is slightly chewy, average carbonation, pretty much perfect. Overall, this is one fantastic American IPA. How do I get more?

Poured from the 16 oz can into a large tulip.
Pours a hazy blonde to light tangerine color with a solid finger of head.
Smells so citrusy, mango and tropical fruit. Some good dank notes as well.
Taste is fantastic, one of the most Vermont DIPA style tasting beers Ive had outside of the Green Mountains.
Mouthfeel was great with perferct carbonation.
Overall, this is a WOW beer. A fantastic, delicious DIPA.

OK, so, I loved this. This is my dream beer, I would drink it every day if I could, in quantity, so yeah, perfect 5. Here’s what I can tell you about it, from the 2014 canned version, poured into a wide-mouthed glass. This batch is much better than the last batch (last year, I think): Smells of strong citrus, pine and an aroma I can only describe as "sweet", like smelling a sour fruit candy -- it smells sweet but you know it’s both sweet and sour. It pours a radiant golden orange. Very hazy, intimidating, and inviting, if you’re into cloudy beers and such. I am... The taste/palate must be spoken of together. There’s enough carbonation to hit the right fizzy expectations, which lifts the intense but balanced strong citrus and light bready tastes, with a punch of alcohol you feel rather than taste. An amazing melding of hops, malt and alcohol. I can’t tell where the tastes begin and end, from the zigzag different citrus flavors to the malt sweetness and a savory flavor I can’t describe. I can taste the beer an hour later, and that’s a good thing. It’s like Zombie Dust, but made with love and not hate, and more alcohol. Perfect. I hope it becomes a regular offering when the new expansion (BEHIND MY HOUSE!!!!) is fully operational. I heard it’s a 100% Citra hop beer, so I doubt it will be available all year, but maybe more often? And yes, there’s a Star Wars reference here.
