Notes/Commercial Description:
A light copper body low bitterness with good hop flavor. This is my impression of what the English troops may have been drinking when they occupied India. The pale ale they drank had mellowed considerably. The wooden casks had spent many months traveling on ships and long inland journeys to the troops, where they were then tapped and enjoyed.

12 oz bottle into a stemless wine glass. Served liquor store refrigerator temperature.

A- cloudy orange, a little off putting. Big natural foamy bubbles, turn in to nice lacings. + for the head, - for the color.
S - clean hoppy aroma hits you right away
T - hoppy bitterness is nice without being overpowering. Hint of clove.
M - a little on the thin side
O - decent drinkable IPA, + for Vermont

22 oz bomber that I purchased somewhere in Vermont, on 7/25/04. Pours a hazy, straw yellow body, with a two finger, snow white head that lasts a few minutes before leaving some minimal, patch lace.

Aroma is lemony citrus, with an assertive essence of pine resin in the background.

Mouthfeel has explosive carbonation and a light body.

Taste is bitter citrus rind, with a soft malt balance. Some pear flavors emerge at room temperature and add a note of complexity. Some buttery notes are noted, suggestive of Ringwood yeast.

Overall, a nice session ale that is pleasantly refreshing on a summer day, and goes very well with an extra sharp Vermont cheddar.

On tap poured into a tulip.

Pours a really nice dark amber color with a small white head. Nose is well balanced, it's got some caramel and a nice floral hoppy note.

Taste is also quite hoppy and fresh. Very well balanced like the nose. It's got a good creamy mouthfeel and it's really drinkable.

A: A medium size sticky head that lingers well and leaves nice lacing on the glass. Hazy light copper color.

S: A slightly dank dose of "C" hops up front gives way to grass and a little sweet malt.

T: Hits you quick with citrusy and grassy hops, then malt enters but never takes over. Hops return for a dry bitter finish. Maybe just a little too much crystal malt?

M: Medium-high carbonation, medium-light body. Starts out seeming like it might be a little heavy bodied for a session IPA but the dry finish takes care of that. Yes, balanced, but still emphasizing the hops.

O: A well made easy drinking beer that satisfies hop cravings without wrecking your tongue or giving you too much alcohol, not in the company of some of the insanely good IPA's coming out of VT but still very enjoyable and very reasonably priced.

edit: I believe the recipe has changed in the last year or 2 so keep that in mind when reading older reviews.

This just came available in PA recently and first had it with some others from Rock Art at the Split Rock brewfest last week. I tasted another tonight to take some notes on.

This IPA pours a nice rich gold color with a very bubbly head that maintains. The smell is of an average hop character, not too much but maybe not enough. The taste continues the medium hop character of the smell. After the initial hop taste it trails off of your tongue pretty quickly and leaves no real aftertaste. I let this one site for awhile and took another try on it after it warmed up a bit and I could taste more citrus tones to it, orange and grapefruit. I think it improved with a bit of time out of the fridge.

Thick, pillowy head on an extremely light, tawny body that leaves cirrus tracings--explosive, effervescent, like dragon's breath.... what to make of this? Active and aggressive... Hops, yes: light and fragrant, and pleasing... FLAT as an IPA gets (and the rest of the sampler is fine), with straw and some fruitiness exist in the beguiling body... light and soft on the tongue--very unassuming, almost retreating in its presence--and that is not a compliment...overall, an average appreciation of the style--drinkable without the fanfare of spruce trees or crunchiness at every sip... not bad...

This pours a yellow straw with a smallish head that's gone in a hurry. The smell is a typical IPA smell, a real strong citrus aroma. Grapefruit and tangerine are both present in this beer. The nice smell makes up for the poor apperance. The taste is very weak and watery. The hop flavor is very slight with almost no bitterness. This tastes almost like a light beer. The m/f is light with a real watery feel to this. This isn't a good American IPA, it's very subdued, I almost wonder though, if this is more true to way IPA's are supposed to be? This isn't what other US brewers are doing now and it seems weak.

small but nice head. Cascade, bitter, malt spiceyness. Piney,Minty, like spearmint. Good with food. Medium mouthfeel. Very drinkable. Change of pace unique IPA. Must be appreciated and drunk slowly, not like a big dose for hopheads. Fresh 750 ml. from Vermont.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on June 29, 2013.

It has a medium amber-copper pour with a haze and a big lingering off-white head.

The aroma is earthy and floral with hops along with biscuit malts and a little sweetness. It smells fresh and clean.

The body is medium with a little acidity.

The taste has a nice dose of floral and earthy hops like the nose but they balance appropriately with the pale malts and sweetness. This is an English IPA so it is not meant to be hopped up. So in this regard Rock Art put together a fine and drinkable IPA.
