Cloudy apricot pour with 1 finger of soapy white head that retains fairly well before reducing to a permanent cap. Lacing is splotchy in the Lawson's tulip.

There is a dank piney aroma emanating from this brew that is also herbal with some grapefruit pith, just a touch of bread in the background, but this one is all about the Simcoe hop. Upon warming, the aroma becomes more fruity and less piney.

Taste is decidedly piney and citrus, fairly bitter in a good way. I'm having a hard time accepting the 40 IBUs printed on the label, seems like it should be much higher as there is a good amount of pop and it wakes the palate right up, tend to feel it towards the back. This is one of those single hop ales that really stages the hop nicely and allows one to focus in on the flavor.

Mouthfeel is medium, somewhat chewy, dry finish that is relatively crisp. Carbonation spot on.

This is an outstanding IPA that is under the radar currently: the price of $4.49 for a bomber is righteous for the quality of the product and the level of enjoyment I got out of it. If Simcoe hops aren't your thing, you may want to try this one anyhow. Very nice surprise at less than $5 for a bomber, hail Rock Art!

First had: on tap at Reservoir, Waterbury, VT

A coppery colored liquid, effervescent, capped with a foamy white head that coated the glass with lacing before settling to a ringlet. Aroma was nice, biscuity malts in the background, candied citrus and herbal hops, with a good display of the featured variety (one of my favs). The taste didn't quite live up to the aroma, but it was still good: tangerine, lemon pith, light herbal notes, grainy malt bill that seemed just a bit thinned out and unbalanced despite the pleasant hop profile. Light-medium body, dry, bitter aftertaste, a good brew overall.
